Better than I expected!
As a first time dog owner and hearing of all the pet emergencies my friends and their pups have endured, I thought I’d start my pup right away. I’m so glad I did! I woke up one morning to my 11 mo. old black lab unable to walk and whining...which I’d never heard him do before! After vet appointments, sedation, X-rays, medicine, referrals, and surgery, my pup is on the mend. I’m not worried too much about the vet bills as I picked a good deductible and percentage of bill payment that works for my financial situation. The claims have been really easy to submit by snapping a picture with my tablet and uploading it to the site. My return payments have come back quickly and directly go in my checking account. I’ve passed on FIGO praise to all my pet owning friends.
I had been a customer of another insurance company for years. All of the sudden, they became nitpicky, difficult to work with, and customer service did a real nosedive. They would not answer emails, forcing me to call, then the wait times were horrendous. To submit a claim, you had to have the vet fill out a form, then scan the form and invoice in, and upload it to a portal. Ugh.
I decided to switch, and I am very happy with Figo, the new company I went with. Customer service on the phone and in emails has been stellar. They have a GREAT app for uploading claims, and a very fun social element. Figo only requires doctor’s notes, which my vet can email to me. No filling out forms! Figo also gives you collapsible water dishes with a caribiner for each pet and a collar tag with a unique number that can be used to locate your pet, should they become lost.
Figo covers things unusual, such as boarding fees if the owner has an emergency and has to be in the hospital. Go look, and see all of it! My puppy got a very serious illness at eight weeks old. It was pre-existing in my last policy. As I expected, it would also be pre-existing with Figo. The biggest difference is that my last company refused to cover ANY signs of the illness (such as coughing, no matter the reason). Figo is different! My dog’s illness was deemed “curable,” and I could apply for an exception after she was illness-free for 12 months. Um, wow. They do not guarantee your appeal will be granted of course, but with the last policy having NEVER as their rule, this is great! I am so happy that I chose Figo, and I think you will be too. Their premiums are competitive, as well. Check ‘em out!
You choose a reimbursement level of 70%, 80%, 90% or 100% after your deductible.
The pay-out amount is based on your actual vet bill.

Annual limit of $5,000, $10,000 or unlimited depending on your chosen plan.
Deductible
$100, $250, $500, $750, $1,000 or $1,500 annually. Deductibles offered depend on pet’s age and location.
Age Limits
Must be 8 weeks or older to enroll. No upper age limits apply.
Waiting Period
1-day for accidents, 14 days for illnesses, 6 months for hip dysplasia and orthopedic conditions. (Both hip dysplasia and orthopedic condition waiting periods can be waived by having exam/waiver form completed by veterinarian)
Exclusions
Curable pre-existing conditions may be eligible for coverage if symptom free for 12 months
Conditions arising from a repetitive and specific activity, eg. Ingestion foreign object, ear infection caused by water, snake bites, etc. – excluded after 3 occurrences
