Bad Business - Tripled My Premiums & Lessened my Reimbursement overnight
I signed up for Figo in 2017 and up until recently had no complaints. I've never had to file a claim, I happily accepted the reasonable increase to my premium in 2018 for my "Senior" Dog when he turned 8, and even chose to increase my coverage in 2019 just to be on the safe the side!
This week I received an email notifying me my policy was up for renewal, but because Figo has recently changed underwriters my monthly premium has TRIPLED, my deductible has DOUBLED, and my reimbursement amount has gone down by 20%.
The email they sent even says they think the increase of over 50% is unacceptable, however they are willing to do NOTHING about it. It literally reads: "Since your upcoming policy will be underwritten by IAIC, not all coverages/plans or prices match exactly from your previous plan. However, your increase this year may exceed 50%, and we find this to be unacceptable. In order to make this transition easier for you and to find the best coverage available for a similar price with IAIC, we are providing you a recommended options"
I had the unlimited plan, I paid a $48.44 a month premium, with a $500 Deductible and 90% Reimbursement. The new *RECOMMENDED* Plan comes with a $129.44 Monthly Premium, $1,000 Deductible, and 70% Reimbursement.
??? Seriously???
The best possible option you could come up with was to triple what I was paying before with less coverage? If that's the going rate for the market then that's fine, I have no problem paying a fair price for a decent product. But as a business it is your responsibility to come up with a long term strategy to increase over time and not make your customers feel like they are being taken advantage of. An increase of that significance should happen in small increments over time and not triple over night. I have emailed my request to cancel my policy immediately and already signed up with a new provider who I will be happily paying $110 a month for the same coverage I had before with Figo.
It's not all about the money - It's about how you treat your customers. Enjoy the 3 years of pure profit you made on me. I will not recommend your company to anyone.
