Overpriced, covered nothing

Overpriced, covered none of our medical expenses, would never recommend.

Bandaids and bubble gum would serve you better.

Our dog developed a rash on her snoot. This was unrelated and had nothing to do with the infection she had in her ear as a puppy. Did insurance cover it? No, because they classify them both as "dermatological" and therefore it must be an existing condition. The back and forth only to have our case be closed. I hate this insurance.

Jury's Out

Great marketing gets you in the door. But dealing with claims people feels like insurance. Sample FIGO communication regarding our dog's ortho waiver: "Thank you for providing this information. We have received [your dog's] completed orthopedic waiver form with the exam performed on 08/20/2021. This has been reviewed and applied to his policy. The 6-month waiting period has now been waived for the orthopedic conditions that were assessed during the 08/20/2021 exam and do not show any clinical signs or symptoms. The left front limb is excluded based on the waiver and medical records received from [your dog's] veterinarian. The waiver and medical records show outside palpation and a recommendation for radiographs. Until a further orthopedic exam and diagnostics can be run, these conditions may not be eligible for coverage as they were noted to be abnormal on the waiver and medical records. To clarify, the orthopedic waiver is not a guarantee of coverage." All that because our vet's exam notes indicated: "Outside palpation - looks OK. If further test needed recommend x-ray." The waiver form doesn't require an x-ray. And the vet's note just indicated the limits of his exam (palpation). Seems clear to me. But it wasn't to the FIGO "claims support team." So, after incurring the expense of a vet exam to get FIGO's ortho waiver form signed, we decided to just wait out the 6 month ortho exclusion period rather than jump through more hoops (and incur more expense) for the FIGO claims support team. We haven't made any claims under our policy (which we have renewed for a second year), and hopefully, we won't need to. But, based on the ortho waiver experience, I wouldn't be surprised if there are more hoops to jump through. Bottom line: Don't be fooled by the touchy feely marketing. It's insurance. So, read your policy carefully and expect FIGO claims to assert all available coverage defenses in the event of a claim.

They lie about what is covered

I bought this because my dogs are getting older and I know I don't make enough money to pay for everything if they got really sick. I chose a plan for my older dog which included dental stuff (which I made sure it did because old dogs tend to have bad teeth), and when I had to have a dental procedure done on her, then filed the claim, it was denied. I looked back through my policy, and it should have been covered. So I contacted support asking about it and was given this very curt "screw you" type of message. I tried filing it again in the hopes that it was just a mistake and I got bad customer service, but it was declined again. So I paid over $300 for pet insurance that I couldn't even use when I needed it. Worst waste of money in a long time. Luckily, my vet was willing to work with me and did the surgery at a reasonable price. Do not work with this company. They're only here to take your money, and will not help when you need it.
