Update: continuing to charge me after the death and cancellation of policy
Run don't walk from this company. I'll give you my honest 13-year experience with examples. They were actually great for years when they were petplan, but became terrible once taken over by the Dodo (apt name). A few examples: 1. Want to spend money on a new policy? They're happy to take your call. However, if you're spending thousands (and you WILL spend thousands) per year, you're stuck with a crappy chatbot that gives you incomplete and unhelpful options. After lots of time getting nowhere you'll have to wait for an email response. No time for personal calls once you have your policy. 2. (This one I think is the most egregious, and likely tricks many customers): Your copay plan will have an actual deductible that FAR EXCEEDS the published deductible. Example: a 70-30 plan with a $500 'per condition' deductible. When we had expenses they would only apply 70% of those expenses to the deductible. So you'll find that you spend far more than $500 before you hit your deductible. Simple math means, in fact, that you'll spend $715 to hit a "$500" deductible ($715 X 70% = $500). Imagine - that's advertised as a $500 deductible. Take that for each condition because the deductible is 'per condition', and you'll find that you're spending hundreds - if not thousands - more than the published deductible before you get any coverage whatsoever. Shady. 3. At annual rollover, your premiums will definitely go up, sometimes by 200-300%. Do they give you notice and an option to continue? Nope - they used to (with petplan)....but now the Dodo automatically bills you at the new rate. Want to make a change? Cancel? Well, you're stuck with the unhelpful chatbot yet again (which, surprise surprise, includes no 'cancellation' option). 4. Finally, when the company was still petplan we had a death benefit associated with the policy. After experiencing the deep sadness associated with saying goodbye to our 13 yo lab, we read the fine print of the new policy, which states that no death benefits are paid to animals over age 8. There's more, but that's enough. It used to be a great company - now it's profit only. You can definitely do better - shop around.
UPDATE:
Even after all of this (see reply below), and after cancelling my policy due to the death of our pet, they just charged my credit card again for > $200 for our monthly premium. And NO ONE will answer a call or a move chat to help. Just continuing to make a painful experience unbelievably bad.
