Terrible support

I decided to try Fetch when I needed to find a new plan for my dog. Now that I've had to submit a claim, I'm finding out how terrible this organization is. The subscriber portal is difficult to navigate and only has the bare minimum of options. I uploaded my pet's historical medical records twice because I couldn't tell if the upload was successful the first time, and there is no menu option to see your documents. Now, I'm still waiting for a claim to be processed. I waited 2 weeks and then get a request for my dog's historical medical records! I uploaded AGAIN, and I am still waiting. The portal only has 2 options for customer support - an AI bot with preset topics and an email address. I went with email and have yet to receive a response. Not only do I pay more per month for this policy, the annual limit is lower and the reimbursement percentage is lower than the policy I have on my other dog with Figo. I only signed up for a different insurance because at the time I had no experience with submitting a claim with Figo. Since then, I've had to submit claims to Figo and had no problems. I'm very disappointed that The Dodo promotes this insurance plan, and now that my dog is having issues, I feel like I am stuck, since all other insurance companies will say he has "pre-existing conditions."

The Fine Print

It's really unfortunate my pet became ill shortly after I switched insurance providers, essentially disqualifying him from all future claims. I'm mainly to blame for not reading the fine print and keeping my old policy during the waiting period (if that's allowed), but here's what I could have reasonably expected. 1. A shorter review period: It took over two weeks to hear back when the date alone should have resulted in a denial of the claim in an automated way. 2. Clearer disclosure of terms: The policy effective date isn't when policy coverage actually starts. It starts 15 days following. For joint related issues it starts 6 months following. I put in a lot of time to put the claim documentation together and didn't expect to be over 4000 dollars behind after waiting. Ideally the portal shouldn't have even let me submit. There should also be an initial option selection for joint health related claims when filing within 6 months of signup where the portal automatically denies the claim. At the very least that information should be presented in a clear way upon sign-up. Given their response to my inquiry, any clinical symptom during the waiting period can be associated with any later health condition, disqualifying coverage. In my case, my pet having an upset stomach and potential immune condition or arthritis got grouped into a health condition that can overlap with just about anything later. "A pre-existing condition is any medical condition which first occurred or showed clinical signs before the effective date of your policy or during the 15-day waiting period. (By "clinical signs," we mean any changes in your pet's normal healthy state, bodily functions or behavior.)"

Kyann was fantastic

Kyann was fantastic. She was informative, courteous, and patient with my questions. Thank you for having such a valuable employee. Only one issue, I discovered after our call that my premium went from $40 to $54 on my pet Chase. This was not mentioned to me during out phone call. I am concerned.

They'll treat anything as "related" to pre-existing conditions

Sammy (my dog) turned 5 this year so I got her insurance. She's never had a written health concern besides "grade 1 mild tartar on her teeth" two years ago. This means they're dirty enough to notice, but not out of the norm, and not enough of a problem to fix. Basically normal wear and tear. The other day she chipped her tooth playing, so I took her to the vet. Fetch would not cover that visit, and would not cover the procedure the vet recommended because a chipped tooth is "related" to dirty teeth... I spoke to customer service who defended the decision to not cover the procedure because the vet wanted to clean her teeth during the procedure to have a better view. Customer service thought it was weird that Fetch wouldn't cover the visit though, so customer service resubmitted the claim. I got an email the next day informing me it was still denied. I chose Fetch because they covered teeth. It was expensive, and the monthly cost was more than triple what they've reimbursed me for, but I figured it would come in handy if something like a chipped tooth ever happened. I underestimated their greed and apathy. Don't make the same mistake I did. If I could do it again, I would've chosen Nationwide. They would also prioritize profit over their customers and pets, but it would have been cheaper at least. I immediately cancelled my Fetch insurance plan, and will never recommend them.

I am reluctant to write a review right…

I am reluctant to write a review right now as my contacts have not all been positive and it has been next to impossible to talk to a real person. I am new to this Company and not real familiar with their procedures. Rather than give a negative review i would ike to see how this works ut.

Monthly Cost

Plans average $35/month for dogs and $25 /month for cats

Coverage

You choose a reimbursement level of 70%, 80% or 90% after your deductible.

Payout Limits

Annual limit of $5,000, $10,000 or unlimited depending on your chosen plan.

Deductible

$250, $300 and $500

Age Limits

Fetch doesn’t enforce upper age limits, so you can enroll your pet any time after it turns six weeks old. Some providers limit coverage for older pets to accident-only. Fetch doesn’t limit coverage by age so that you can get the right care for your buddy, no matter what.

Waiting Period

Fetch’s waiting periods are up to 15 days for accidents and illnesses and six months for orthopedic events.

Exclusions

Fetch won’t cover pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures, boarding costs, breeding costs, wellness care items, or accidents and illnesses that occur during waiting periods.
