Be Aware Of The Pre-Existing Condition Clause

I had insurance on 2 cats with this company for about 10 years. Overall I would say they are fair. The biggest drawback is the "pre-existing condition" clause. I have never looked into any other company policy and, therefore, am not aware if this is common practice. It seems to be a major source of complaint by many and can prove to be devastating upon an animals illness. After my cat died, I filed the claims for medical reimbursement and was at first denied because they considered his condition "pre-existing". I spoke to several women in the office regarding the matter and they were so very nice. After I explained the complete story of my cats illness, one suggested that I put those facts in writing and file a formal appeal. After 2 letters from me and one from my Vet, the company became aware that there was no "pre-existing condition" and paid fairly on the claims. My advice is keep good records so you can deal with facts if necessary.

Only Good In The Beginning

This insurance was great at paying the annoying piddling expenses the first 8 years of my pets life. Insurance is definately NOT something that I want to get my money's worth. But, when a deabilatating accident (ACL tear) happened to my pet I was comfortable in the fact that I would be covered. after 8+ years of paying premiums. This is why we buy insurance right? Well, they gave every excuse in the book not to honor my claim. After filing a lawsuit with small claims court, they settled the day before they were to appear but with no admission of guilt on their part for continually rejecting the claim.

Pay for nothing and are snotty while doing it

I was with ASCPA for only a short time (less than one year) but during that time they did not pay one claim on my Lab, and when I contacted them, the support people were very discourteous and haughty. I cancelled them, and I would suggest no one insure with them

has already paid for itself several times

I have been with this company, PetsHealth for a number of years now, and I have 2 cats..the deductibles are low, and in the first year that I had purchased it, it had already saved me a great deal of money, as one of my cats became seriously ill, and I was unsure how I would pay for the care he needed, as he had to be hospitalized....the bill was well over $500, and Petshealth, because of the coverage plan I chose, paid more than half of that! It helped me so much financially, and the best part, was the peace of mind it gave me. Now, when one of my cats needs to go to the vet I don't worry as much, because I know Petshealth is there, and I can count on them--not only that, but they are so helpful and caring when you need to talk to them by phone.......I would recommend this company to anyone who has pets....

Excellent coverage and customer service

I have had my pets covered by ASPCA Pet Health Insurance for several years. During that time I have turned in numerous claims, several for some specialized treatment, and I have been very fairly reimbursed. Thus far I have had no problems getting a representative on the phone or via e-mail, and those I've dealt with have been helpful, compassionate, and extremely niced to work with. I have recommended ASPCA Pet Health Insurance to several of my friends and will continue the coverage unless something unforseen happens.
