ehhhhhh....It's OK, but not great.

I have had this insurance for several years and used it recently for the 1st time for one of my cats. I will say that you really need to understand all of the fine print. I was reimbursed a portion but not all minus the $100 deductible. It was decided that my vet charged more than what they thought was a reasonable amount and just did not pay some of the costs. I must admit that I thought my policy paid 100% after the deductible, but when I went back and read it, it is an 80/20 split. However, I think it is wrong to not reimburse the full 80% the vet charged. I have no control over how much the hospital charges. Basically, if you add up what you pay in premiums over time, you are simply putting your pet's health expenses on a monthly payment plan and paying in advance. And more than likely you will end up paying more out of pocket all together. There are way too many limits and exclusions.

So Far So Good

My dog just got his teeth cleaned and some small warts removed and ASPCA paid 80% as advertised. Although certain charges are paid only to the maximum allowance, I am not sure if any one ever knows what the allowance is. Yet the process took about 2 weeks from the date I faxed in my claim to the time I received my reimbursement. One thing I like about them is that they will email you once the claim is processed; communication is a key.

Yes, on Pet Insurance

I was happy that I had bitten the bullet a few years back, and bought pet insurance for my Australian Shepherd, Nellie. I didn't have it when I had to come up with $4,000 for her ACL surgery. 80% of that would have been helpful. Nor did I have it on Bravo when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. I never added up the costs of 15 months of chemo. Nellie required surgery recently, which came to $1,400. The reimbursement of 80% of the cost came very quickly and without question. I'm sold on pet insurance.

Bugsy Junior says "Thanks For Saving My Life"

Bugsy was acting strange not wanting to brushed and would nip at anyone that tried to rug his hind quarter of his left side. It looked almost like he had an impacted bowel. I was not here at the time all this was going on and my Mother and Brother were telling me how bad it looked thinking maybe he would have to be put down. It hurt to think I might lose my baby, who has been with me thru times of trouble, sorrow and depression, he has always been there to comfort me as if he knew I needed him just to cuddle with me and be there with his big golden eyes, saying "it's okay, Moma" "I am here for you". I was so glad I had the foresite to want to be there for him when he needed me, and without the ASPCA pet insurance, I couldn't have done just what needed to be done for my baby, I am thankful for the insurance and the help it afforded me to be there for him, now he is home and back to his finnicky eating, which I cater to and there every night on his little place on my bed, purring and wanting to be groomed again. We insure our houses, our cars, our lives, why not take care of our pets, they are an important part of my family. Thank you
