My domestic short hair kitty "Sis"(16 yrs old) had some unexpected problems back in October & November 2010 with her balance, she all the sudden one evening could not stand up or walk and her heart rate was racing, I thought she was having a stroke or something, I rushed her to my vet, they checked her over and sent me home with no anwsers, I went to a different vet for a second opinion, after a thorough check up and blood work the vet stated that she had a lot of build up of wax in her ears and thought that was the problem, I scheduled her for surgery to do a thorough cleaning deep in the ear, Sis stopped breathing and they revived her and said that she just was not a spring chicken anymore and that it was not safe to ever put her under again, so we tried antibiotics and ear drops, she has learned to adapt and lives a perfectly normal life now. If it was not for the ASPCA Pet Insurance, I really don't know what I would have done, I paid my deductable of $100.00 and I have been reimbursed anywhere from 75-80% of what I put out of pocket after my deductable. I have 2 other cats as well and I have them insured too incase I ever run into any problems with them in the future. When you have pets in your family, pet insurance is the best way to go, most pets are like family members to us and the should never be looked at as anything any less that any other family member and they deserve the same care and help that us as humans receive.
