They are getting better each year.....

This is great insurance for my young dog but their 'usual and customary covered charges' are way off the rates paid in Manhattan. They underpay on claims and when I called them to ask them to send me to the vet that charges those very low 'usual and customary covered charges' in Manhattan they couldn't find one... But if my dog does get really sick I know I will get reimbursed for something and that always helps!

Skin Ailments

Having the insurance keeps my wife and I from thinking twice about taking our dog to see the vet. If he's not feeling well, we take him to the vet. The only negative we've found is reasonable cost reimbursement rate does not appear to adjust for location, so we always take a bit of a hit on that (we live in NYC). Still, the insurance makes pet health care manageable

It's Like Car Insurance

Yes, Pet Insurance is like Car Insurance. Hopefully you will never need it, but if you do, you'll be glad you have it. In March of 2010, I decided to get insurance for my seven year old beagle, Tulip May. Luckily, other than allergies, Tutu is a healthy dog. Eleven months elapsed and I hadn't needed to submit any claim. But while waiting in the lobby at the dog groomer's, Tulip snagged her nail on my coat and ripped it significantly. So much so that blood dripped all over the place. Thankfully, the groomer was able to stop the bleeding. But she also could not groom Tulip that day and suggested I immediately go the vet's office to have her treated. Needless to say, I was a mess. Tutu needed to be anesthesized, have her nail clipped all the way down, and placed on an antibiotic to avoid infection. Here I was, at the end of the my inital year of insurance, having to place my first claim. Needing some guidance, I contacted customer service, faxed in my claim, and had received an 80% refund check in less than two weeks! Fast and easy. As an aside, I also like that part of my policy remittance goes towards animals in need. My two suggestions to ASPCA Pet Insurance would be that they institute a policy more dedicated for pets in their middle years. Generally, after the age of five, dogs are considered "seniors," and most insurers only offer limited wellness and/or illness policies, if at all. They basically just cover accidents. I would further suggest something wherein
