Very Disappointed at the moment!

I was just informed that since my policy just renewed that my pet (who is in the middle of being treated for an allergy) has to be cured/illness free for 180 days for anything to be covered. I understand at the beginning the the policy but renewal for current policy holders is unacceptable. I am researching and will be changing companies very soon!

Why pets need health insurance

For most of the time, I have not paid attention to the policy at all. The coverage for routine exams is nothing spectacular, and I tended to pay for them and ignore it. However, this past autumn my cat became terribly sick. An inner ear infection migrated to the optic nerve. His right eye sank in, he stopped eating and he could not stand up. Treatment included two weeks of hospitalization with intravenous antibiotics, and ran to over $3,000. I sent in the bills just hoping to get covered for whatever I could, and was amazed to find that most of the expenses were covered. If not for Petshealth insurance, I am not sure where the money to pay for all this would have come from.

OK Insurance, not great, not too bad

Representatives are nice and polite. The process is easy to follow. The premium is affordable. The "80% of reasonable Charge" is not good. I compared several vets in my area, they all charge the similar price, but ASPCA considers all of them over charged, so I really get reimbursed 50%-70%. Don't know where ASPCA get their standard of charges for my area. ASPCA should provide a list of vets in each area that do not "over charge" patients, that will make their decision more acceptable. First month after activate insurance, the health issues are not covered, this should be improved. The puppies that were checked by vet before go to new home at 8 weeks of age, and was checked right after arrive the new home(next day?) should be immediately covered, unless the illness happened within first month of insurance is determined by vet as an existing issue started before Insurance was bought. Puppies are very like babies, need extra care, that is why I buy insurance for them. One month no cover but still need to pay premium is really not right.
