ASPCA Pet Insurance

I have had ASPCA Insurance for over a year now after transferring over from VPI. To date I have encountered multiple issues: Customer Service Phone Line - busy for over 10-15 minutes, requests leave a message, they do not call you back; losing claims - fax confirmation of their receipt of claim, while they don't seem to know where the claim is; no notification of claim status after 2 months; repeated emails and phone calls not answered appropriately by provider. I am sorry that I switched to their insurance.

Excellent insurance & customer service

Purchased this insurance when I adopted a neighborhood cat, Miso. He was an older feline and we believe he received an abscess from a spider bite. He was very sick and it took months for him to recover. ASPCA pet insurance paid the claims quickly and I was satisfied with amounts of reimbursement. Then last year he became very sick with numerous liver and pancreas problems. Again, ASPCA Pet Insurance paid the maximum amount of my policy quickly. Miso passed away last month and when I remembered to cancel the policy I had a refund of my premium in less than a week. They also sent a condolence card which I very much appreciated. I will definitely purchase this insurance again when I adopt a new pet.

Lucky & Louie

We left our 2 dogs at a pet hotel for 2 nights while we attended a family obligation. On our way home the hotel called to say Louie the pug, wasn't walking. He couldn't stand up to be bathed. A pet hotel employee met us at the emergency vet. The vets report questioned if Louie had a serious, inherited, spinal problem. The cost to diagnose and prognosis was daunting! Louie was over-night at the vets to receive medications. Lucky went home with us. Before the night was over we were back at the emergency vet with Lucky. He had a spider bite which caused a whole body rash. The bite could have been life threatening. Louie left the vet walking the next day. The vet said it was a minor spine problem - but we always wondered if he had been spider bitten as well. Or had lyme disease. You just don't know what the next 24 hours holds for a pet, but we breathe easier knowing we have ASPCA insurance to help us. We've been back to the emergency vet many times. If I see another pet owner distressed from vet costs I always recommend ASPCA.

Pet insurance

I like ASPCA better than the last insurance company I dealt with. It does seem to take a long long time for the claims to be processed, though. That's my only negative feeling about this insurance company.

Monthly Cost

Rates start at: $10 (for accident only), $16 (Complete Coverage). Rates vary based on species, age, breed, and location.

Coverage

The pay-out amount is based on the actual vet bill, at a rate pre-selected by the customer: 90%, 80% or 70%

Payout Limits

Annual limits can be set by the customer, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, including an unlimited option. No lifetime limits.

Deductible

$100, $250 or $500 annually.

Age Limits

No upper age limits. Pets must be at least 8 weeks old to enroll.

Waiting Period

There are no waiting periods for preventive care. Coverage begins 14 days after date listed on policy for accidents, illnesses, and knee/ligament conditions.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures and breeding costs are not covered. ASPCA Pet Health Insurance has two Preventive Care plans that can be added to help cover a pet’s wellness care, including annual exams, vaccinations, tests, dental cleanings and flea/heartworm preventive. Preventive Care plans reimburse up to a set amount for each listed treatment. If your pet exhibited symptoms of a knee and ligament condition at any time, prior to enrollment or during a waiting period, all ligament and knee conditions will be excluded. Ligament and Knee are conditions involving a ligament, patella, meniscus or soft tissue disorder of the knee. Accident-Only coverage available.
ASPCA Pet Health Insurance®, provided by Crum & Forster Pet Insurance Group through its licensed agency, C&F Insurance Agency, Inc., is committed to improving animal care across the U.S. by making veterinary care more affordable for pet parents. Their Complete Coverage(SM) plan covers accidents, injuries, illnesses and more, and features simplified reimbursement based on percentage of invoice.  Preventive Care is available at an additional cost.
