Good to Fair Response to Claim
Our hound mix, Spike, was poisoned by another dog's meds at the beginning of the weekend, when my normal vet was unavailable for the emergency. By the end of the weekend, we had a $2,500 claim, and fortunately the emergency vet was able to save him with guidance from the ASPCA poison control hotline.
After the deductible and deductions for items charged over the 'usual and customary charges' - about $200 excess, we recovered about $1,650, not counting the charge for their own poison control call (which they could not verify until I sent in the credit card bill, even though it had their own case number on it). The rest of the claim was handled quickly.
Still, it was valuable to know that most of the event was covered and made it easier for us to make the best decisions for his ongoing care. We'll certainly keep this insurance.
