Don't get insurance with this company

Don't get insurance with this company. I have had insurance with them for 3+ years. They have raised my rate every year without much justification. I kept paying it despite it getting expensive. I had accident only insurance, and this year my dog tore her acl (ccl in a dog) in her knee. A very common orthopedic injury to active dogs. I thought "oh good" at least I kept that insurance active. The surgery was $6,000 and I turned in my claim for reimbursement which I already had to pay out of pocket. I got surprised by this company because they turned around and called my dog's accident an "illness", and thus it didn't qualify under my accident insurance policy. Hmm, that was sly! They made no justification to me how they came to that decision, and every vet and person with any common sense would never call an orthopedic common knee injury that required surgery to fix the issue and "illness"! So I called customer service to inquiry about it and they just tried to read me all the stuff I already knew. I was handed off to the supervisor, who also could do nothing for me except offer that I could email their appeals department and maybe get the decision changed. But that only has ~50% turn-around. This company is a crook. They took my money for 3 years, never anywhere in their policy do they say they won't cover a common traumatic knee injury as an "accident". They define illness as anything that isn't an accident, and then get to make the decision without transparency as to what they define as an accident. Then I have no power to talk with anyone in a supervisory role to make a better judgement on it. Cannot talk with the person that made the decision, have to continue to do all the work to get them to do their part of our contract, and likely will have to get an attorney at this point for any hopes of getting them to payout a legitimate claim I put in. Just beware this could be your experience with them too!
