Puppy insurance is a good idea.
After our 4 month old Sheltie puppy moved a box of mouse poison in the garage and had an expensive trip to the Emergency Vet Center on a weekend for preventive treatment, we decided to buy pet accident/illness insurance for her. I am now glad we did. About 2 months ago she began limping and, after extensive and expensive tests, our vet is still uncertain what is wrong with her. It has been great to have pet insurance to reimburse our expenses for her.
I am happy with the service we've received so far for our young dog. My chief complaint is that the insurance company uses a "reasonable and customary charge" limit to calculate payment of claims. This information is not accessible to customers or pet professionals so submitting claims is kind of a shot in the dark as far as anticipated reimbursement. We have not always had our claims paid as we thought they should be because of this.
I think pet owners should carefully research insurance companies and policies before deciding to purchase coverage for their pets.
