Astronomical increases with renewal

I had an AKC policy on my Aussie Shepherd for 5 years. I was outraged when my policy went up with this latest renewal to double the monthly amount resulting in an increase over $400 per year! I was not sent a notice of the renewal, and quetioned why it went up (when my payent was drafted from my account. My pet is healthy as only seen annually by the vet. I called and they told me the increase was "across the board for everybody". They are also slow in paying and their "reasonable" charges are lower than you can get treatment for. Watch out for these guys!

Rip Off Plan!

I have had this plan for my Rottweiler for 6 years, since I registered her with AKC at a few months old. She was diagnosed with wearing ACL in her right knee last year. A few months later she tore the ACL in her left knee. After consulting with an orthopedic surgeon, he told me it would be better to repair both knees at the same time as it would save the dog from having to go through the anestesia another time, the healing process would be done at once, and an added perk was it would cost less. I called the PetPartners insurance and asked them if there was any problem having both knees operated on in the same day. Their response was -- yes, that's fine each knee is counted as a separate incident. After the surgery was done, I submitted my bill and PetPartners denied the bill on one knee saying two knees is counted as a chronic condition. I challenged their decision but they still denied payment on the second knee. This company lies and can't be trusted. Find a reputable company!!

THANKFUL to HAVE

We have a collie that required various tests. She was stumbling, falling, walking like she was drunk or walking into things. It needed to be determined if she had a vision or a neurological problem. The AKC PetPartners Insurance paid for the Eye Specialist and that indicated we needed to have neurological consultation. That consult required an MRI as well as a Spinal Tap. The claim was over $2,000. I submitted to the insurance company and they paid the claim at my policy level (80%). AKC PetPartners offers multiple plans for you to choose from. I am very thankful to have this insurance for my dogs. Additionally I do need to say I noticed some reviews indicating problems downloading the claim forms, I have never encountered any problem downloading the claim forms. I have had this insurance for years and thankful that I do.

Expensive Plan but Worth It

I insured my puppy Golden Retriever never expecting to need it. When he was only 3 he developed a cardiac sarcoma that killed him in 1 day. AKC had paid for earlier chest xrays (they showed nothing) & for the $3000 final bill, excluding cremation. I have no complaints about this plan & would get it again but it looks like they've raised their rates considerably in 2 months.

AKC Pet Healthcare Plan vs. Embrace

After having the AKC Pet Healthcare plan on my four Bulldogs for two years I recently switched to Embrace. I was frustrated about the length of time it took AKC to process claims and the fact that they considered just about everything genetic and therefore denied the claim. In addition, for two years I tried to get them to consider giving a multi-pet discount and all I was told was that it was something they were considering. They still don't offer it... Knowing that Bulldogs are prone to a lot of genetic disorders, I decided to look into other Pet Insurance Plans. That's when I realized that the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan is one of the WORST rated pet insurance companies out there. I chose Embrace because they are one of the top rated companies and learned there's a reason for that. Their level of customer service is superior! During a recent wellness check (on a Saturday) my vet found a small mammary tumor on one of my girls. She had surgery that day and spent the night in the hospital. I submited my claims to Embrace on Monday and was shocked to find the money direct deposited into my account on Friday (less my $200 annual deductible and 10% co-pay. I was provided status every step of the way. I even recieved a person email from one of the co-founders a week later verifying that I received my payment and if for some reason I hadn't she wanted me to contact her personally. It just doesn't get any better than that. Embrace may cost a little more but you get something in return - COVERAGE and personal service. Bottom line is DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you buy pet insurance. There's a lot of information out there. I wish I had done my research instead of just signing up with AKC Pet Healthcare because it was recommended by AKC when I received my registration papers. Having the AKC seal of approval in this case is very disappointing.
