AKC | Pet Insurance Review

I am very disheartened with what I thought was a respectable insurance provider. The AKC has only provided disproportionate premium increases and not provided a practical product. You pay over a $1,000 dollars in annual premiums on the Wellness Plan; yes they will reimburse you after the deductible for heartworm, annual shots. This does not offset the despicable reimbursements (if any) being with the AKC insurance. They lose submitted claims, the customer service is rude, they pay on a fee schedule which is something unrealistic, and won’t cover hereditary conditions or arthritis, and the processing of the claim is sluggish. The frustration you undergo is incredible being with this provider. I have cancelled this insurance and so glad I did. Now my sweet baby is covered with Embrace, a provider that actually provides customer service, GET THIS even hereditary conditions, arthritis, allows you to customize the plan, reimbursements not based on a fee schedule and you select the percentage of reimbursement, no “per incident” deception as the AKC has – that is a huge one – so watch out for that! ABOVE ALL – my new carrier communicates with experienced professionals who are thoughtful, attentive, considerate, compassionate kind as well as timely claim processing, and well-informed staff. I have had the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan for 3 years. It was brought to my attention thru my registration of my Golden Retriever with the American Kennel Club. I received a 60 day FREE Trial plan and thought that there most be a trick to this. However, they did not ask for a credit card or anyother financial data. In about 45 days I called and enrolled in one of their plans. The first year they paid me $1100 in wellness benefits and I paid a little over $500 for my plan. The next two years Stacie had several foreign body ingestions and they covered in the thousands. I have seen a rate increase each year, but by far I have been paid more than I have paid in. The Representatives that answers their phones are easy to get the correct information and they always seem to take as much time as I need to get my questions answered. Claims take about a week to get my payment and my Vet loves the fact that the call with any questions to ensure I get paid. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a value petcare insurance plan!!!!

JUST RECEIVED RENEWAL NOTICE. A RATE INCREASE OF 58% FROM LAST YEAR. $790 TO $1,248. REASON GIVEN. THEY NOW CHARGE ACCORDING TO SIZE OF DOG AND AGE OF DOG. MY IRISH SETTER IS NOW 6 YEARS OLD WITH NO HEALTH ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THIS INSURANCE FOR 6 YEARS. THIS INCREASE IS ABSURD. I AM NOW LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CARRIER.

I signed up for the Essential Plus plan almost a year ago and while I've use the coverage for minor issues that have come about, I recently NEEDED the coverage. Sophie, my beagle, sustained a major laceration while running through the woods. She had to be seen on emergency and stayed in the hospital for 3 days due to the extent of the injury (neck area). Not only was customer service excellent in helping me with the claims process but I received a $3,000 check in the mail 9 days after I sent in my claim. Sophie is now doing great (still runs through the woods like a fool) and I was able to pay off my bill at the emergency clinic. I would highly recommend this company to any pet owner!
