How to Save Money at Ark Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very friendly staff. Appointment time was right on, very little wait time. Doctor Thies was professional, great with our dogs and patient with the million questions we had. Explained what to expect and look forward to down the road. He is our vet of choice.

I tried to give the benefit of the doubt but I really felt discriminated against when I first came here. The Doctor is lovely though, don't get me wrong but when I first came in after making a appointment the lady in the front greeted everyone so sweetly in line but when it came my turn I mentioned I was here for my appointment and she handed me a clipboard without saying anything and left quickly and came back and was already handling the next person behind me and greeted them nicely. I didn't mind that, I assume because it was a tad busy as she was thanking another lady that came from the back to help her. But after I finished completed the forms on the clipboard I waited in line again and when it became my turn she held up her hand at me to tell me to hold on and came back to me only to help the other people that suddenly came into the door. I was waiting there for a good long while; while the two were just chatting nicely to everyone else and I felt bad that I wasn't really being acknowledged so I left the clipboard at the front desk and sat back down. When it came time to pick my pet up from surgery I again was not greeted or even really smiled at, but the person after me was. I really felt like I didn't belong at this vet. After waiting there in line while everyone else was being talked to nicely I ended up sitting down, It was about 35 minutes when she said "oh" and told someone that I was here to discharge my pet. I felt like I was forgotten. Another lady came out holding my pet in the crate and talked to me nicely at least. And I was thankful my pet did well in surgery. There was an issue with the printer at the time and the same lady asked if it could be sent via email since I had asked if I could have a printed receipt for my insurance. However the people before me all had printed papers from the front printer so I found that a bit odd. While she was explaining the printer thing the other lady popped in and happily said she could print me the copy in the back. There was a optional charge to pay to get lab results and I really wanted to make sure my pet was okay. I was told a estimated week I would get results back. I waited 8 days to finally get the courage to call and ask if they happened to get them in because I really REALLY didn't feel too welcomed there. A lady told me that the Doctor would call me back shortly with the results, I waited 6 hours right at 5pm-ish since I know they closed at 5:30. I called back again to check they haven't forgotten about me only to find out the Doctor had already left for the day. As someone who was grieving with worry with their pet, I really wished they were a little bit more kinder to me. I really felt like I shouldn't have gone to this vet because of my pet insurance and I regret it wholeheartedly. I'm sorry but can't come here anymore, I know I am not welcomed here. Edit: 1/20/2023 (from 1 to 3 stars) I received a call today from one of their Doctors (not the one that worked on my cat) they kindly apologized after reading my review/experience. Thank you, I greatly appreciate it.
