How to Save Money at Door County Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been to three other vets before I came here. Today was my first visit but WOW all around friendly staff. Willing to deal with my aggressive cat and handle him so well. I was really relieved today when my cat got the care he needed and they made sure he was doing well. Thank you so much

Supremely disappointed in my experience with this veterinary clinic today. I live in Denver, but spend my summers in Door County and made sure both of my dogs have a vet up in here just in case. One of my dogs is sick and when I called to get them in today for a simple stool sample I was informed they could only see my dog if I scheduled her for an annual exam. I told them they both just had their annual exams at their primary vet in Denver and I could have all of those records sent to them. Having just paid hundreds of dollars for that in Denver I couldn't afford to have another repeat exam here. However, they said it is their policy that they must be the ones to perform the exam and cannot see my dog unless I pay for an annual exam. Clearly, this clinic exists solely to profit off of sick animals and is not actually here to help them get better. Despicable.

Since the day they opened their clinic here in Sturgeon Bay, Drs Jen and Jordan have been compassionate and thoughtful as they dispense qualitative care. They both have many years of experience, state of the art equipment, and I feel confident that my pets get the best care available. During a recent and tragic emergency at the end of the day with my cat, they worked me in and gave me the time to say goodbye even tho the clinic was very busy. Definitely the best veterinary care I’ve found in the past 50 years.

Dr. Jen and Dr. Jordan are both fabulous! I have 2 labs who can be a lot to handle at times and both of the Drs do a great job with them. Dr. Jordan sits on the floor to make himself seem less intimidating and even lets the dogs give him a kiss or two. Appointments are timely, even in the Covid world. I appreciate them letting you know there's an increase in the exam fee for an emergency exam so you know ahead of time (extra amount isn't much higher). The vet techs are wonderful as well. They ask many questions to make sure they have all the facts. Everyone really does care about your pet! Highly recommend :)

I just brought our new Aussie puppy Harry to the clinic because he was having some significant GI problems. We were not yet a client but they made room in their schedule to see him the next day. Everyone at the clinic was fabulous. Dr. Kobilca and and his tech and put our dog at ease (except for the little yelp when he got his shot) and took the time to thoroughly examine him and discuss all the potential issues. He prescribed medications and we had a good discussion about diet recommendations. He even sent me home with some special canned dog food to help his recovery. I’m happy to report that 24 hours later the little dude is feeling much better and Harry has his new doctor!
