How to Save Money at American Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very impressed w/the level of care & compassion we have experienced thus far, since choosing America Animal Hospital for our puppy's care! Recently, our lil bundle of joy, "Taco," became sick; vomiting, lethargic & excessively drooling. Anyone who's experienced something similar knows how scary it can be for both puppy & family. Needless to say, I was "freaking out"! As soon as we called AAH, they immediately understood the urgent care our puppy needed and told us they could see him w/in 20 mins. From the moment we arrived, Taco was given the best care possible! Everyone at AAH from reception to vet tech to the Dr was helpful/informative. By the end of our visit, Taco was feeling much better and is now back to his cute playful puppy self. Thank you American Animal Hospital!

I've been going here with my two cats for over two years now. They are always so kind and good with my animals. The staff will tell you what is best for your animal always, and keeps transparency in mind. When I got my second cat, they didn't bat an eye accepting him for care. I'm looking for a dog right now, and there was no issue with releasing medical records and they always pick up the phone. Thanks for being such an easy vet with such a kind staff

If you are a first time client I highly encourage you to look elsewhere. I had a great first experience, knowledgeable staff, we had a game plan to treat my animal, I paid, left and made another appointment for my other animal. I arrived for my 2nd appointment only to be told they can't see me (like call? and don't make me come in?) because I didn't pay my prior bill. Imagine my shock when they had no record of the bill being paid. The saw the cat anyways . I should have been weary then. We have been emailing back and forth, because again, phones aren't a thing to this establishment. Here is my final words to them Not once, has anyone really owned up to this and that puts clients trust in jeopardy. You will not see my cats, perfect, as I would never go back to a business that treats their clients with such disrespect. I would never feel safe going there and I can speak, I can only imagine what this staff does to the animals who can't say anything. The lack of professionalism, follow up (as I was trying to schedule a surgery for my cat and it was time sensitive per the vet. I had questions prior to booking and never got the answer so my cat never had a chance to treat what I came in there for) isn't a thing to the staff, lack of communication between estimate to bill, the fact you record everything and I am on my 4th ask for my recordings and have not got them. The staff, when you say, I'm here to pay for X pet just charges you whatever for another person's bill and then rely on the client to have the receipt, the way the staff has handled this solution. I would never come back and highly encourage first time vet seekers to stay away.
