How to Save Money at Mauston Pet Hospital and Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
The only reason they are getting the second star is because they were available right away. I had two dogs taken in due to porcupine quills. They left all kinds of small ones still in my Labs face. He is miserable. I can see them clearly and I've removed some with my fingers, that's how much was still sticking out. $740 for that kind of service. I thought the quality of service had change since the old vet left, but I guess not.

Staff are so incredibly friendly and the vet is awesome! We were traveling through and needed to update shots and get heartworm meds refilled. They were able to accommodate us and got us on the schedule quickly. Highly recommend!

We brought our sick cat to them. Our cat isn't the nicest cat around. They treated him with respect. They were very comforting when we had to put our cat down.

Honestly if I could give it a 0 star I would. By far the worst experience I ever had. My 11 year old lab had non stop vomiting and diarrhea all day from getting into something she started bleeding from both ends so I called Mauston vet and explained everything and the women told me to bring her in right away. When I got there there was a cat wandering around that wouldn't get away from me and my dog, the Dr. brought us in the room and there was blood still on the table, I asked if he can make sure she’s not bleeding internally or tore anything then the Dr. proceeds to tell me he’s just going to put her on medicine (without knowing what’s actually wrong) because he closes in 30 minutes and doesn’t want to do any X-RAYS or anything that’ll take long I said well why’d you guys tell me to come in after I explained everything on the phone?! So I told him I’ll just go somewhere else where they’ll do something and then he tried making me pay $50 for a 5 minute conversation. Needless to to say I did not give him $50 for a worthless 5 minutes and will not be taking any of our dogs back here again.

I appreciate 🙏 that you guys got me in at a moments notice, my pups normal vet has been closed for an extended weekend, so I called Dell's animal hospital 2 days in a row, no answer, I believed my dog had a tic that was beyond my reach to safely remove, doc took a look and informed me it was a bite from a tic but now I'm not so sure, I bathed dog cleaned his wounds gave him his flea/tic meds and applied prescription antibacterial topical, this spray seemed to sooth him a bit, I rated 3stars as more of an informal review more for the doctor and staff to see vs. Any customers, when I entered the facility a good vacuuming of animal hair would go a long ways as far as new customer presentation, just take a day to do a deep cleaning, wipe up the tables and hair , I left a bit confused on what was actually wrong with my dog, today he was vigorously itching even after bath, shaking out his ears as he was, before any treatment at this clinic, I panicked and started to research myself, as I wasn't fully explained to by doctor and staff about what was really wrong.. they did give him an injection but I don't really know what it is, anyway internet is saying pulips of some sort but they are getting large and bleeding around surface, this is why I thought maybe a tic but I could see no feet or signs of movement in said places on dogs body, it seems to be some sort of flesh eating bacterial infection, I will continue to wonder and just keep spraying the 5+ spots of raw skin.. idk what to do, I have pulled many tics from dog this year but I have no idea what I'm dealing with now.. again please don't take this the wrong way mauston pet hospital, you were kind and did what you thought was best , just letting you know my honest experience, have a wonderful weekend.
