How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The team at VEG is outstanding. I seriously couldn't have asked for a better care team for my pets. Yes we went in for a simple eye issue but we just didn't want it to get worse and our vet was booked out 4+ weeks. VEG never made us feel like Bandits eye wasn't important. They made sure we were comfortable with everything they did and explained everything very well. We are so so thankful for them. You all are so amazing. PS Bandits eye looks so much better already. He says thank you all for the wonderful care.

I can’t say enough good things about the staff at VEG Madison. I was in twice in one day with my senior dog and while unfortunately he had to leave me that day, the experience could not have been any better considering the outcome. The entire time I was there the service was prompt, the staff was friendly, and I was able to stay by my boy’s side the entire time. I felt comfortable but more importantly, I could tell he was comfortable despite feeling really icky. The doctors kept me informed and gave great input when I sought their professional opinion but weren’t pushy about treatments. When it became clear my boy was not going to make it, the hospital provided us with peanut butter, ice cream, whipped cream with sprinkles and chocolate for him to enjoy before he went to sleep. It gives me immense comfort to know that he had a great final day filled with love and snacks. They even sent me a beautiful card and his paw prints a week or so later that brought me to tears. I appreciate you all more than I can ever explain, thank you for your kindness and loving my boy… I will never forget it. Anyone seeking emergency veterinary care in the Madison area should ABSOLUTELY come here, you will not be disappointed.

This place is the best!!! We brought our Molly in at 5am on 9/11. She had been having a difficult labor and things were not going well. We live over an hour away. VEG was called and aware we were coming. On the way she finally gave birth to a stillborn puppy. My daughter and I tried to save it but the puppy was gone. Molly had her second puppy right when we got to Madison and things were improving. We arrived at VEG and I went in and told them the situation. They suggested we leave Molly in my vehicle and see how things go. They were so kind to us. Told us to come in and use the restroom, get some snacks and that they were there if we needed them. They even came out to the car when shift changed to check in with us. Molly had a second puppy but then time went on and no more puppies. We knew there was 11 babies to be born. I went in and they agreed we needed to have her checked out. Options were given to us, prices were discussed, very compassionate staff. Warm basket provided for puppies too. We agreed to try meds to get labor moving again. Puppies were finally all delivered by 2 pm. All alive and healthy. Molly is doing great at home being the best momma to her 10 beautiful golden retrievers. The staff is amazing! They even took our deceased puppy and were so compassionate. All puppies were checked again by the vet before leaving and they made sure all puppies nursed before we left. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! And Molly says thank you too!

So I had to take my dog in on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago for a potential intestine blockage, and just got around to writing this review. Right when I left I told myself I needed to make one because Dr. Resnick and her team were so caring and compassionate, not just to me and my dog, but to all the animals that came in. It was so apparent. We were there for about 3 hours including x-rays AND ultrasound. They got us in and out and feeling better so so fast, I was so impressed. 10/10 would recommend this place if you are worried about your pet and don't have time for a regular vet appointment. They did a fantastic job from start to finish.

This clinic has the most caring and compassionate staff. We came in with our severely sick bunny who unfortunately did not make it. The staff did everything they could for her and we appreciate their efforts and kindness during our difficult time. They gave us a room to say goodbye to her, took paw prints for us to keep and explained our options for her cremation. I would definitely recommend them. Here’s a photo of our beautiful bun. May she rest in peace.
