How to Save Money at Northside Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I called to find out what they charge for dog spraying. I was told $400. A few weeks later I made an appointment for the spaying. I got to the appointment 5 minutes early. You can't just walk in because the Vet is immuno compromised. You have to call them on arrival and then wait for someone to come outside and wave you in. It was a particularly hot day and had to wait in my air conditioned car. I waited 20 minutes, 15 minutes payed my appointment time. Then had to wait another 10 minutes inside. So inconvenient. I handed the dog off to a girl and asked the receptionist what the cost would be. She said $450. I said 3 weeks ago it was $400. She smugly said...Well prices change and if she went through her first heat it costs more. She could have told me that when I called for the cost 3 weeks before the appointment when I informed her of the dog's heat cycle. When I picked my dog up the spaying cost was $295. When I asked about that the receptionist said, nastily,...It must have been harder to spray your dog. I told her they can't keep inflating the price with no explanation. She said meanly...I can't tell you over the phone the different process. All I can tell you is the base price. This place is a sham.$8 for a plastic collar (no problem),$10 for gabapentin for pain

I love the way the Vet is caring with my two boy cats and patient with me. Because of some bad neighbors, my cats have run into health problems. But thanks to this clinic, all is well with my cats. Dr. Fulmer Vogel is the best!

This hospital was recommended to me through a Kenosha Facebook group which is why I tried this place out. I'm sad to report that this hospital is the opposite of a place that should be caring for our fur children. I never saw the vet herself smile. The vet never welcomed me. She never even thanked me for my business. As a small business owner myself, I know that customer experience is a huge part of business interaction and this small business falls flat in that department. You are also not allowed to go into the room with your pet because the vet is immune compromised so she just speaks to you from the doorway. I was informed before my first appointment from the receptionist that I wouldn't be allowed in the room because of the vets immunity concerns but I figured, this place must be amazing because it was recommended to me so I would still give it a try! Customer service goes a long way and can truly make or break an experience and in this case, everything combined broke the experience for me. They also don't utilize email with their clients (I couldn't find anything listed on their website). They don't even have a voicemail set up. Nor do they use a scheduling software. Not that these things affect the care of my pet, but we are in a digital world. I do want to mention though that they figured out the issue with my cat and why she was so sick through blood work which I am thankful for but because of my overall experience, I am continuing my cat's care elsewhere. My money doesn't grow on trees and I want to make sure that I'm using it wisely on a vet who truly cares and shares in my concerns. Thank you Northside Animal Hospital for diagnosing my cat and helping her on a road to recovery. Truly grateful for that!
