How to Save Money at Gentle Vet Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

26Apr24 Sending Love because everyone there loves your pet unconditionally. We all hope our pets stay well, my cat has been ill, they took me in as soon as they could. That alone is amazing! Josie (our cat), will be fine soon. The new location is great! They so deserved this wonderfully built clinic! The lobby is spacious and the rooms for checkups are perfect. I recommend this place, from years as a customer with 2 prior lovely cats who both passed, there’s vets who love animals and there’s Gentle Vet who are full of kindness and love you and your pet. Thank you.

Took great care of my baby Eva. Eva is a bearded dragon that recently got molt stuck in her eye. Appointment scheduling went smooth. I understand and was not bothered by the $90 reserve fee. Vet and other staff were very gentle with my baby and took good care of her. Thankful to have knowledgeable professionals on reptiles within a reasonable driving distance of me. Would definitely recommend to others looking for a new reptile vet.

I'm a big fan of Gentle Vet. My dog LOVES it there, his tail wags the entire time and all of the staff treat him really kindly. They are really understanding of me being a first time dog mom and they validate any somewhat silly concerns I might have, while trying to help ease any worry. When I call, they're usually able to get me in within a day or so, which is really convenient. My main vet, Dr. Lacey gives me really sound advice that comes from not only her expertise as a vet, but also as a dog owner herself. I appreciate the care and love shown to my Duder at this vet and plan to stick with them for as long as I'm a pet owner.

I struggled between a 2 or 3 star rating, because in reality the doctors and tech staff deserve 5 stars, they are AMAZING! I’ve brought my pet birds here for a few years and always had an outstanding experience. I brought my baby bird in today that we thought might have mites, however vet didn’t find any. We received no special instructions on where to sit etc if the possibility of mites bothered anyone. after the visit, we went back to the waiting room where we were waiting to pay and sign out and also researching a medication just IN CASE and to prevent mites and wanted to ask to make sure it was correct before leaving as I live all the way in Oshkosh so this is a hike. The front desk staff called us over and said they were ready and we said “okay give us just a sec we were looking up a med to see if it’s correct before leaving” the front desk lady acted appalled and was like “well come pay now and get it over with.. I mean you need to pay for the exam” we were already surprised just by the tone. We went and paid and the lady promptly became even more brash and said things like “so what was it here for? Regular visit? Sick? What?” We said there was a possibility of mites but didn’t see any she said “well that’s pretty strange they’re letting you sit out here with everyone if there’s mites that’s weird and could spread” my husband and I glanced at each other like..(there’s a million other ways this could have been worded) we replied “the vet said nothing about us sitting anywhere else” We went and sat down for a few to research and they proceeded to send glaring looks our direction many times. I then went to throw some trash away and didn’t see a trash can and one of the ladies said “it’s over there” I ask where and she said “the only one labeled trash” it was hidden in a drawer and the word “trash” was tiny hidden under a handle. She was looking at me like I was the dumbest human she had ever come in contact with. While these things may seem small to most, the way we were treated by your front desk staff was surprisingly horrible. It has made us question coming back if we’re going to be embarrassed and treated like scum of the earth each time we come in. Vet tech staff and vets are amazing, however the front desk staff needs to be reminded that speaking to people like this is uncalled for and unappreciated.

I've trusted Gentle Vet with my animals since 2006 when I adopted my first cat. Dr. Gray is an amazing, compassionate provider who always goes above and beyond. Dr. Gessner is trustworthy and communicates in a very good way about all aspects of care. The techs are wonderful, the office staff are warm and friendly, just an overall amazing clinic.
