How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Workers are great and they get things done very fast. It was 11:30pm on a Sunday and I brought my dog here unexpectedly because he was experiencing bloating and right as I arrived they took him and got him looked at. I am 19 and this was my first dog and the first time I had to bring him in and they helped me though all of it. They were very open on the prices before they did anything and it was all done and over with in about 30mins from me arriving. Sadly did have to put him down but it made it a lot easier with great workers.

Saturday late evening our 17 year old cat was struggling to breath. Her mouth was open and she was not acting normal. We rushed to Blue Pearl with her. They took her back quickly and assessed her situation. She was kept comfortable in the oxygen chamber. We met with the vet assistant Josiah, he made us feel so much better as he updated on her status. Dr Biese met with us several times and gave our kitty such loving thorough care. She was discharged with complete instructions. The vet tech and receptionist made sure Calypso went home with everything she needed. We are grateful there is a professional hospital to take our dear pets in emergent situations. Thank you for all that you do.

Came in due to my 14 year old pug, Jeter, having severe panic issues on our way from Vermont to Wisconsin. I was worried if he wasn't treated, he would not survive the car ride back. The phone staff were very helpful to my family during the drive providing her with the best options, including times they are not as busy. The following morning, I called and was also impressed with the phones staff's patience and willingness to listen to what happened. When I arrived at 830am, there were a few people, but they got me in the room immediately. I was waiting to be seen from the doctor for several hours, however, a staff member continued to give me updates on where I was in line and the reasons I had to wait. I really appreciate their communication. The care staff was amazing, they all clearly understood the normal sounds of a senior pug. The doctor was calm, able to answer my questions, and gave my pug medicine to help the ride home. I am happy to announce thanks to BluePearl Pet Hospital, the medications worked and we made it home. The exam costs were reasonable as well. I was expecting a much higher bill. Thanks for all your patience and understanding of my odd situation.

We had to bring our elderly cat in to be put down. They were so compassionate and understanding. They took our girl back right away & then we were able to go back within 5 minutes to say our goodbyes & spend some time with her grieving. I highly recommend Blue Pearl to everyone, especially if it's after hours for your regular Veterinary Clinic. Thank you to the entire staff for being so amazing and caring to not only us, but our sweet Nala.

We were referred to Blue Pearl with our 12 year old cat Wilbur from our primary care vet. He had diabetic ketoacidosis, a bladder infection and extremely severe pancreatitis. The medication he was on is very new and made his treatment plan very complex and complicated. Each veterinarian took the time to explain everything thoroughly, stayed in communication with our primary vet, and they consulted an outside critical care vet and their internal medicine specialist to collectively agree on the best treatment plan for Wilbur. It gave us a lot of hope and reassurance to know they were doing everything possible to care for him. After several days of treatment and frequent and much appreciated updates, we were able to safely bring Wilbur hope. We are so grateful for his amazing care. We wish we knew everyone’s names to give them individual shoutouts. Thank you for caring for our Wilbur.
