How to Save Money at Horizon Veterinary Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Our 15 year old Tuxedo cat, Malone, was in need of some dental work. Our regular Vet didn't do dental work so we needed to find a Vet who did. We went on a search and all I can say is thank God we found Horizon Veterinary Care and Dr. Anna Reading and their whole staff. Dr. Reading was so kind and compassionate and caring with Malone. And I must add that the whole staff was fantastic! She did a thorough exam, she knew he was in pain and most likely had an infection. She gave Malone some pain relief and an antibiotic and we scheduled to bring him in for a complete exam under anesthesia and possible surgery. Dr Reading was very informative and disclosed what she anticipated the estimated cost to be even before the surgery. I want to say here, that for all that she did and what she had to do, the cost was extremely reasonable. Malone had to have 3 teeth removed, he had an abscess and other associated problems with a tooth that hadn't resorbed. She also cleaned his teeth beautifully! During the procedure we were kept informed appropriately. And the final cost was completely reasonable. If you have needs for your pet I highly recommend Anna Reading and Horizon Veterinary Care. They are the Best!!!

The veterinarian, Anna Reading, is so kind and compassionate. She even held the door for us while we were leaving. Everyone on her staff is so kind and caring. We have not experienced even one rude person there. We were looking for a veterinarian, and I did so much research and reading reviews. I saw that she had 5 stars, but not many reviews yet. I figured it would be a good place to try. Especially since many places have rude receptionist or full schedules. So glad we did because I will not take our pets anywhere else. They even put their prices online on their website, which is not something you find with many vet places. We did not feel pushed or obligated to buy unnecessary stuff. I feel very comfortable and at home here. Thank you so much for taking such amazing care of our pets!

I brought my puppy to Dr Reading to establish care and get his vaccinations. I was so impressed by her. I could tell she truly cares about her patients. Nothing felt hurried or rushed, I have not had a puppy for a long while so I had a lot of questions. She answered them all, taking the time to explain everything thoroughly. I had been meaning to write a review but you know. Busy busy...... Today I brought in my 20 year old cat for his end of life visit. Dr Reading and her staff were all so thoughtful and compassionate. She gently explained the process, gave us plenty of time to say goodbye. I really don't have the words to express how much I appreciate the way we were all cared for today. It was a hard thing but it could have been so much worse. Thank you Dr Reading, you have a client for life.

I have been looking for a veterinarian clinic since pandemic & have recently had a "not so swell" experience with a clinic closer to home, but am more than happy to drive the extra distance to Horizon. My first interaction was with Danielle over the phone & she was so sweet and helpful that I knew this clinic would be a great fit for us. Dr. Reading has such a warm and caring presence about her, and her staff is friendly and accommodating. She put my mind at ease by patiently answering my questions & concerns & even tested a tumor I was concerned about while we were there. Another small, but sweet gesture, was by Dr. Readings Hubby who stopped to introduce himself & say hello to Sophie. It really is the little things that make a business stand out. Please give them a try, you & your furkids won't be disappointed.
