How to Save Money at Veterinary Dental Specialties
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My husband and I had our German Shepherd, Leila, treated at this clinic for broken teeth and root canals, and I can't express how impressed and thankful we are with Dr. Fielder and her team. Not only was their bedside manner towards our anxious dog top notch, their office policy of operating on one animal at a time in the surgery room (with exception to emergencies) ensured that Leila received 100% of their attention and focus. As a CareCredit card holder, their recent integration made payment simple and worry free as well. I was also particularly impressed with their imaging technology, which helped to identify any and all underlying problems during Leila's visit. Through this, they were able to discover Leila had not one but two abscessed teeth. There is a designated space at the clinic in the back where my husband and I were able to work remotely during Leila's procedures, and they took care to ensure that Leila was as comfortable as possible and worked together with my husband and I as Leila was going in and out of sedation. Like most veterinary work, these procedures were pricey as can be expected, but the team worked with my husband and I to educate us on the breakdown of each line item before we committed to any cost and we were provided best and worst case scenario based on our choices. The team is also diligently working with me and my insurance provider to complete a claim. Throughout Leila's colorful medical past, we have met a lot of great people and teams that I will always be grateful to have met, but Dr. Fielder, Katie, and Bea stand out to us as the best and smoothest experience we have ever had in ensuring a happy and long life for our beloved dog. Two root canals later and a cool as heck metal crown, Leila is noticeably happier and more comfortable, and she can finally go back to leading a painless and worry free life like all dogs deserve. It is clear that the team at Veterinary Dental Specialties care a great deal for animals and as pet owners we cannot thank them enough for their professionalism and heart during our two visits. I will gladly be visiting them again for routine care.

I had a great experience at this VDS. I took my dog here after months of sneezing concerns and after a CT scan, it was suggested to get a jaw surgery here. The doctor took a much less aggressive approach to diagnosing and treating the concern and I greatly appreciated all of her work and thoughtfullness with me dog. She was thorough in her education of the matter at hand and spent a lot of time during our consultation and follow up discussing the prognosis. The front desk called me within 24 hours to see how my dog was post surgery and answered questions I had. Overall, it was the best vet/animal hospital experience i have had!

Dr. Fielder and her team are so kind and compassionate. My dog is extremely reactive to any kind of medical procedure. They went above and beyond to make his procedure as low stress as possible, taking extra time with him before and after the procedure and allowing him to wake up in an exam room with me instead of alone in a kennel like he would have at veterinary facilities.

My poor girl broke her lower K9 down to the root.. I visited my veterinarian, who suggested trying for a root canal as a healthier alternative than extraction at her age. After calling so many places, I was losing hope we could get her comfort in less than 6 months if we were to get a root canal. I cannot express how much gratitude I have for their staff and doctors for getting us in and scheduled as quickly as you could! UPDATE (you can see the shine on the lower left K9, brown dog) surgery was a breeze! Even tho my girl managed to mess up the filling after the root canal, thankful we went with the crown placement and that they were able to still make it fit. She's back to tugawar with her sister like nothing ever happened. Thanks again Dr. Cody!
