How to Save Money at Northwest Veterinary Clinic of Stanwood
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I went in Tuesday out of concern with a cough for my sweet Floyd. The specialist seen was Melissa Albert. Floyd was weighed, they listened to his heart, general things. No blood, no x ray or anything further. I accepted. Floyd had a rabies shot and we were on our way home. I called back on Thursday because Floyd was lethargic. Would not eat, use the bathroom ect. I called and spoke to KATHY the receptionist, who I’ve spoken to every time. She said it was unrelated to the vaccine, and said she would write down my information and have a veterinarian call me back. No one called me back. I called again and the reason? “Crazy day.” Floyd was taken to the emergency vet in mt Vernon Saturday morning where he was beyond saving and we had to put him to sleep and say goodbye I am heartbroken. Our lives are shattered in one week, had he declined and I’d never been to your office, I would have gone straight to the emergency vet and he would be alive today because they would have actually performed tests on him and he would have gotten the treatment he needed. I know you can’t save every animal that you meet. But you could have saved floyd with doing more then just listening to his heart. I’m really ashamed of your establishment

I have been going to the Stanwood location for over 15 years, there is no one I trust more. They have been there in happy and sad times and have always shown me and my babies nothing but the most compassionate and professional care. I even get calls after hours with test results and to follow up on anything that was of concern when I was in the office. Every doctor and every staff member show they care in everything they do and in all communications. Top notch, wouldn't go anywhere else. Sherry Brown

I have been using this vet for 12 years. Until now. We LOVE Dr. Albert and would love to continue to work with her. Unfortunately, my feeling about the rest of this clinic has changed. The lack of communication has been frustrating, especially regarding necessary medications and test results. I, on more than one occasion, had to call multiple times to get the results of my dog's labs and tests after already waiting for them to get me the results for over a week. Also after being assured that someone would be getting ahold of me. Our youngest dog has serious pulmonary issues. We had to take her to WSU so she could have heart surgery. Pre& Post operation there have been mixups on NW vet’s end. One of the mixups was about her prescription dosage, they have also failed to send a prescription to the pharmacy. I had to call the pharmacy, and then the pharmacy had to track down the prescription dosage. From my personal experience, this vet office has completely changed in a downward spiral. Customer service is little to none. After many frustrating instances, more than I can account for in this review, I stayed because like I said before love Dr. Albert (she is fantastic). If you decide to use this vet office, beware that you might feel like an inconvenience to them unless you’re at the cash register paying them out.

Both my little pups were overdue for their annual checkup and shots. They were very nervous and vocal during our visit but the staff were patient and kind. The doc was great and helped resolve some issues with my little girl's allergies and gave us some medication to help relax them before their next visit for a nail trim. We look forward to a much calmer visit soon - thank you NW Veterinary Clinic!

Absolutely wonderful experience. My kids (pups) and I needed a new Vet. They are not well socialized (4yr old) labs. Aside from a couple of nervous puddles, they did great. Got their needed vaccines, physical and nail trim without incident. All the staff were exceptionally empathetic and professional. If they'll have us, we've found our new home for Canine health.
