How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat was very ill with blocked ureter and wasnt able to pee. Life threatening condition. I was able to get in at 6pm at night and have him assessed. The staff were very caring taking him immediately to the Triage center. They kept me informed every couple hours. They presented a plan after a thorough assessment with the price so I knew upfront the cost. I made my decisions based on finances and the best decision for my kitty. He stayed at the hospital for two days and nights . Glad to report after 3 weeks he is doing better. I am still watching for symptoms now that know what they are. I will use BluePearl again if needed without hesitation.

Had to say goodbye to my best friend of 15 years on Monday. I brought him to Blue Pearl in the hopes of saving him, but knowing full well it was likely goodbye. After going over the options to TRY to buy him a few more months, I made the most difficult decision of my life. I said goodbye to my best boy Nero on Monday night, and every employee interaction we had was top notch. They were so patient, so compassionate, and my Nero's little casket had his name written on it with hearts. They allowed me, my wife, mother in law, and Nero's little big brother to have the goodbye room for as long as we needed it. They encouraged us to stay with him both before the drug was administered and after for as long as we wanted. I could not recommend them more for end of life care. The wound will never heal, but Blue Pearl's service and compassion was above and beyond.

We had to euthanize our dog and they were amazing. They understood we were devastated and gave us time to say our goodbyes in a private room without rushing us. They took care of our good boy when he passed and went above and beyond with the paw prints and nose boops. The price was explained and not bad for what everyone in the family wanted. This facility will be where I go when I get another pet and where I will send anyone I know who asks. They were kind and gentle with us and even sent us a condolences card. Thank you guys for making this difficult time a little bit easier.

Thank you so so much to BluePearl's amazing and compassionate staff, from the front desk to the techs to the veterinarians. We've had to come to BluePearl a couple of times with both our cat and (recently) our dog, and they have always had excellent care. Super thankful, too, that their system automatically connects to Trupanion to handle our claims and payments immediately.

I called and explained my dogs illness and asked if it would be wise to take him in now or wait until tomorrow morning to take him to his primary doctor. The woman who answered the phone was in a very big hurry and would ask questions about my pets condition just to quickly cut me off. After a brief round of being asked questions and being cut off, I was told that they are at max capacity and that I would have to call somewhere else or wait 12 hours. I'm not sure why she didn't just lead with this information. Especially since the she was in such a big hurry to get me off the phone.
