How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have had great ER vet experiences and this ranks among the best. Kind, knowledgeable professionals and a level of pet-parent involvement I have never seen before. I felt welcomed and included and like I could be there for my girl every step of the way. My other dog even got to come check on her sister when she stayed overnight.

Today was my first time visiting VEG when I brought my sick puppy Mercedes in for vomiting blood. From the moment we entered the door we were treated with kindness and compassion. The employees did everything possible to make us comfortable and even offered coffee water and snacks. The clinic is beautiful and our private room had a couch that my sick puppy could cuddle with me on. I even noticed there were toothbrush kits in the bathroom for those who end up staying overnight! Dr. Paxton was great! She cares about her fur patients and owners alike! I highly recommend Veterinary Emergency Group and will return in the future if needed!

I can’t even begin to explain how amazing our experience here was. On a late Saturday night our senior dog Zelda was in serious trouble. After calling around for emergency vets they were the only facility that could see her immediately. We called ahead, drove over an hour and when my husband carried her in the team immediately went to work. She had multiple staff members attending to her, sensing the urgency and our emotions they offered us water, coffee, snacks, anything to help us catch our breath and stay calm. We were a mess of tears and panic but they gave us the support we needed to stay strong for her. Our sweet girl went through a lot of ups and downs but the vet, Dr. Painter and staff kept us informed at every step. We ended up being admitted planning for surgery on the following day and were allowed to stay with our baby in a room that even had a bed for the pawrents. The staff monitored her constantly through the night. Even with a few scares they did whatever possible to help our girl make it through. What I respect the most is the transparency and support. We were on the brink of having to decide between surgery or letting her go. We pushed to do whatever possible to save her and they gave that same commitment to saving her as well. With what was one of the scariest moments they made sure to be honest about the cost and expectations. Thankfully after her ultrasounds and multiple tests she was able to have surgery with Dr. O who saved her life. The attentive dedication to care and true love for animals shines through with each staff member of VEG. They saved our daughter’s best friend, our baby, and our family. I can’t express enough how grateful we are for them.

Long overdue review ❤️ the team at Veterinary Emergency Group in Redmond was absolutely amazing during a tragic and incredibly difficult day, when we lost our sweet Daniel very unexpectedly. The care, compassion, expertise, and responsiveness of the whole team was so commendable. The kind note they wrote us brought tears to our eyes. We look at it everyday next to his memorial. Knowing that he had a team of professionals who clearly visually cared about him and wanted to save him, meant the world to me. My husband was out of the country when this emergency happened, and I was so grateful for their supporting presence. Thank you!! ❤️

I recently brought my dog, Yeti, into the Veterinarian Emergency Group (VEG), and I was incredibly impressed with the care and compassion we received. From the moment we walked in, everyone jumped in to care for Yeti right away. The staff's dedication and empathy were evident in every interaction. Dr. Michael, the vet who attended to Yeti, was exceptionally thorough in his explanations, making sure we understood every aspect of Yeti's condition and the treatments available. Despite the fact that Yeti did not have a good outcome, I am forever grateful for the care we received from VEG. Dr. Michael's follow-up call the next day to check in on us was an unexpected but deeply appreciated gesture. A few weeks later, I was touched to receive a card from the staff expressing their condolences. I highly recommend the Veterinarian Emergency Group to anyone in need of emergency care for their pets. Their compassion, professionalism, and genuine concern for both the animals and their owners make them a standout choice. Thank you, VEG, for everything you did for Yeti and for us.
