How to Save Money at PetCare Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was recommended to check this clinic out due to long wait times and booked out veterinarian offices around me. I’m so happy I was able to walk in with my two kitties to get them updated on their vaccines including their rabies shots after living in WA for a year or so. The staff is so kind, patient, funny and easy to talk to. Their system of setting up patient records on an iPad yourself and paying prior to the visit so that there’s no surprises as to what your cost will be was perfect. The wait area is clean and calm, so was the exam room for that matter. The veterinarian that looked over my two kitties (both 9 years old) was very gentle with them and walked us through each step of the exam calmly as he could tell they both had different levels of anxiety. By the end of it all I think we were pretty tired but also left feeling accomplished. lol This will definitely be the go to clinic for my kitties.

Surprisingly on a Friday morning we didn’t have to wait long for my cat to be seen. Last time I was here was during COVID and it took forever. Now I was here and checked in at 7:45, got in about 9am an hour after they opened. So waiting wasn’t an issue, what was the issue was the price they wanted to charge me to get more tests done on my cat. There was no “value” in the $970 invoice they handed me on top of the $70 I already paid for the exam. I decided to leave as soon as I got the invoice. I can’t afford that, my cats just going to have to stay sick for a couple more days. When I was here for the same cat for almost the same reason before it was about $500 for care. No “value” in this clinic anymore.

My dog was acting very strange by walking into things. I took him to Sumner vet who just gave him meds that did t help. After several visits to Sumer vet with no results I took him to Value Vet Clinic in Puyallup. The doctor immediately sent me to Blue Pearl for a MRI. Turned out my boy has a ruptured disk in his neck. At the time he was 10 years old. Fusion surgery was suggested. My insurance was used up for the MRI so I needed to wait until it renewed. My boy was in a lot of pain. I had to take him back to Blur pearl for a pain shot. They told me he would need another 5k MRI since it was over 90 days from his last one and with the surgery it would cost 18k. I asked if they could do pain management on him. They told me if I did t do the surgery they would not see him any longer. I was devastated. I went to Value Vet Clinic where the doctors prescribed meds. I am shocked at the results. I have not seen my boy so energetic in years. His tail is up, he is barking and excited like he was two years ago. I want to thank Value Vet Clinic for helping Boo have quality of like. I came very close to thinking I had to send him over the rainbow bridge. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. .

Worst pet clinic ever. We can not enter the room with our pets, the front desk has the worst customer service I and a whole lot of people can agree on. The receptionists turning rate is garbage, they are not trained at all, they are all on different pages. No one knows what they are doing OR they pretend to be doing something. It’s all a joke. They may look fancy from the outside but they are not. Please if love your pet, don’t take them here.

I brought my 1 year old yorkiepoo to be seen thinking he had an eye infection. They ran tests which were a little bit pricey however I’m willing to spend however much for my fur baby to feel better. Turns out he just had a little irritation, nothing major. (I do take into consideration that they have expensive equipment to be able to run tests and this is why the charge is slightly pricey.) Front desk employee was very kind, the doctor’s assistant was nice however the Dr was short and did not seem to be in a good mood. (We all have our bad days so I’m not judging, just something I noticed.) My wait time was for about an hour and a half which is fairly quick for an urgent care. Although it was not that busy, of course time varies. Overall I am satisfied with the care that was provided to my little yorkiepoo.
