How to Save Money at Northpointe Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Doctors are great and have good care. This place is very poorly run otherwise and pricey compared to other vets. Final straw for us was not receiving a callback about scheduling an appointment for an injured paw. No callbacks have happened numerous times with this admin staff and the front desk is borderline incompetent. When WE called back we were told we couldn’t be seen for 3 weeks? How does that help us? What’s the point of paying their monthly “paw plan” if we can’t get care when we need it for it. Something we won’t be renewing and we our switching vets. Be careful of this place charging for procedures that aren’t necessary as well. Seems they are more about profit than care. Edit: Even more evidence of incompetence in the owners/managers response. They have the wrong customer and can’t keep it straight. You saw my Dog, Merlin last week for blood work. I would think if you’re going to respond in such an unprofessional manner you’d at least make sure you have the correct customer information in front of you that you’re addressing. Stay far away from this place.

I couldn't give this vet more stars if I wanted to! The team here always gives exceptional service and are incredibly kind. I have been taking my animals here since moving to the US in 2015 and I've never looked back. The staff are not only friendly but very accommodating, knowledgeable and understanding. My pets aren't ever just treat as furry patients; they're are cared for like family here. The services they offer like Paw Plans are greatly priced and worth every penny too. If you are looking for a veterinary practice that cares about the well-being of your furry companion as much as you do, look no further - Northpointe Animal Hospital is the place to go. I highly recommend these guys to everyone I know and strangers alike.

Mushroom & Blackberry may as well be my children — I adopted them this year and I love them so much. I knew that choosing a vet would be the most important decision I would have to make about their health. A friend recommended Northpointe, and I’m so glad I decided to take their recommendation. We primarily see Dr. Bruce — Dr. Bruce is caring, gentle, thorough, and knowledgeable. The other doctors are incredible as well. The front desk staff is so helpful. Anytime I have a minor question they are easily accessible by phone or email and they get me the answers I’m looking for, usually within minutes. I have had a few medical concerns pop up for the boys during their first year. Anytime there is an issue, the staff has done everything they can to provide the best care for my babies. I trust them! Thank you, Northpointe!!!

Had my dog there since he was a puppy. Used the care plan for many years and used it to get his teeth cleaned. Got a call saying that he had an abscess tooth and needed to be pulled at a big additional cost. I mentioned that he didn't show any signs of discomfort and was basically told that I was not the expert. I just grabbed my dog telling them that I didn't want the tooth extracted. Went to another vet where it was 40 miles away but the doctor was a family friend. The tooth was fine but we did do a round of antibiotics to be sure. 2 years later, our schnauzer still has that tooth, chomping away. Never went there again. Can you imagine how many times unsuspecting people have fallen for this?

I would not recommend Northpointe animal hospital. I have been taking my cats there for years but recently that staff are not friendly especially the clinic manager Alexandra. Definitely don’t invest in the paw plan because it barely covers any of their regular care and they charge you to cancel. They are not upfront about costs. Like that other person said in the reviews all they care about is the money not the pets.
