How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We adopted an epileptic dog Czar and he sees Dr. Chavez the Neurologist here. I can’t sing her praises enough. She is so patient and wonderful. She answers all of my questions and concerns. She is in constant contact with us (every time he has a seizure, we reach out to her and she has provided everything from reassurance to guidance on what to do.) She has seen him with short notice and has educated so much on his condition. She also provided us a great general practice vet recommendation. She became a part of our family and we couldn’t have been happier!! The emergency room staff is on a whole other level. While I was deployed he had a foreign body obstruction. They got in contact with me and provided me periodic updates on him. The care they provider him and the above and beyond service they provided me while on deployment. It was a seriously stress time for me and they helped provide information and keep me calm about it. I will not take my pets anywhere else for emergency care!

I took my GSD there and was greeted by friendly staff, none of which treated him with any sort of breed stigma. They treated Him with proper care and respect throughout the whole visit. I was told it was a 3-6 hour wait but he was seen at 3. After the first exam they took him in for sedation and x rays and told me it would be another 4-5 hours but it ended up being about 3-4.The vet working with us, Katrina Huskie was absolutely wonderful. She was thorough and answered my many questions with patience. It was pricey, but that’s the case with all emergency care as opposed to your regular vet. My dog, even with being in pain was comfortable with the people working with him and over all we had a great experience. I drove an hour to get to there and I would make the drive again if necessary.

**Unfortunately since this review we had to let our kitty cross the rainbow bridge but after seeing our vet and getting a quote we decided to bring her back to blue Pearl and everyone was so kind and understanding. Their services were also $150 less than our actual vet. Although I hope we don't have to come back here for a long time I know our pets will always recieve the best care from the loving, caring people at this clinic We woke up Saturday morning to an exhausted wheezy cat and I immediately knew it wasn't good. I called blue pearl and explained her symptoms and they told me to bring her in. Our kitty was seen almost immediately because they were expecting her. It was bad news with a huge bill and extremely emotionally overwhelming as we weren't expecting to have to possibly put our cat down that day. We initially decided to have her made comfortable so we could take her home and bring her back the following day but after some tests we decided to take the Doctors recommendation and put her on meds and as of today she's happier than she's ever been. She's still really sick and doesn't have a long life ahead of her but the doctor saved her life that day and we are forever grateful. This office was also very respectful of our money and didn't do a single thing more than what was needed which ended up saving us 50% from the initial estimate. My husband and I got this cat for free and she's been the most expensive free cat in the world but this was worth every penny. Now she gets to live out her best days living her best cat life in luxury. We appreciate everything they did for us.

The staff here was beyond amazing when I had to bring my sweet Sushi here for respiratory distress. They went over her diagnosis and treatment plan in detail, then updated me after her procedure. I am so grateful they could take her. Thank you Dr. Sio, Dr. Schmitz and the entire team for the care. I also want to highlight the reception team, these ladies were both very helpful and kind. Thank you!!!

We had a big scare this morning when our 2 year German Shepherd Sally was stung by a ground wasp/bee. We are visiting our Son and Daughter in law in Lakewood and went for a walk. After getting stung Sally stopped walking and just lay down. We searched for an Emergency Vet and found Blue Pearl Pet Hospital . The experience was OUTSTANDING from the minute we walked through the door. The Triage Technician was so comforting and reassuring. The Client Service Personnel were so kind and compassionate. My wife and I are so grateful! Bud and Mary Olson Hill City SD
