How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I had no issues so far. Great staff and they were courteous. I had all my puppy needs met, and they were treated with the utmost greatest of care by the vet and the vet assistant. All the bad reviews you see are from a different vet that is no longer there. Date of review : August 27,2023

Front desk receptionist was incredibly rude, yelled over the phone, lost their patience and professionalism when trying to reschedule my dog for an emergency visit to refill a prescription. Absolutely disgraceful. She repeatedly acknowledged that she had no idea about our case or how to fill the prescription which was obvious because his emergency visit was scheduled for a month out before I told them it needed to be sooner. She also had no idea how to advise bringing in an anxious dog nor how did she offer a back up appointment in case they aren't able to perform the exam. Rudeness with competence is one thing but to be rude and incompetent is unacceptable

Dr Lee and the whole team were amazing! If I could rate them 20 stars I would! Super caring and spent over an hour and a half with me to get my dog all figured out and back on track. They genuinely cared and I whole heartedly appreciated every minute.

I'm so disappointed with Banfield in Lakewood. I scheduled a surgery for my senior dog with a broken tooth so it could be extracted. The evening before the surgery they called me and cancelled the appointment. Someone else's pet needed an "emergency" surgery so they no longer had a surgeon to help my dog. I guess they also had a backup surgeon but they weren't available either. I'm also disappointed about the quotes that I received regarding this surgery. I spent a long time calling many vets in my area getting quotes. I should have been suspicious instead of excited that they came in a full $400 less than every other vet in the area, and that they weren't booked out 2 months to schedule it. When I brought my dog to the exam appointment they told me it would be an additional $300-600 more than I was quoted over the phone. I was already there and my dog is in so much pain so I went ahead and scheduled the appointment anyway, because they could get her in sooner than anyone else. Now fast forward to them cancelling the surgery and I still have a senior dog in terrible pain who will have to wait even longer now because I didn't join a wait list at a different vet's office. I don't know if my previous review of Banfield will still show after leaving this one, however I want to be sure to note that that review was also negative because they tried to overcharge me by over $1000 at my last appointment, because I asked if I could pay yearly for their wellness plan. After finding out just how expensive their plan is I decided to cancel it, and then had to wait for over an hour while the rep called their corporate office to make the cancellation. It seems that they sure can sign people up and take their money but when it comes to giving the customer what they paid for, and treating customers with respect, and having integrity as a business, Banfield just can't deliver. I will never, ever even consider taking a future pet to Banfield and will actively tell my friends and family about the 2 horrible experiences I've had there.

Have been coming here for years, staff in the back is always awesome but front desk could use some work. Brought my fear-aggressive dog in today for his comp exam and one of the front people named Maddy (had curly hair and a sweater on) said “Pugslee? Oh no.” With a rude tone and then asked if I made sure to give him his anxiety medication which was uncalled for and poor customer service. Jennifer and Dr. Evans were super nice and understanding of my little guys anxiety though, super personable as well. They did awesome!
