How to Save Money at VCA Southridge Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve been taking our dogs to Dr. Bauer for 2.5 years. She has been taking care of both our Senior dog as well as our rescue dog. Admittedly, it’s more expensive than I’d prefer. BUT, that being said, Dr. Bauer is worth the extra money. She takes her time, is very down to earth and relatable, she’s thorough and so kind. I always have the feeling that she loves my dogs as much as I do and this is hard to come by. The staff always seem so happy to see my boys! They are kind and patient and always make me feel like my dog-child is their most important patient of the day. I can’t say enough good about Dr. Bauer-I trust her implicitly and feel like she is a person who was called to work with animals. I love these guys. If you can cough up a little extra cash, they are worth the peace of mind.

When we needed them most they failed. After almost 12 years of Kaiser being their patient it really didn't matter to them. In the time of crisis the whole team was unprepared and deaf to every one of my request to be with my dog and comfort him. Estimates were pushed to my face and signature was requested prior any service provided. In 12 years we have spend thousands and thousands of $ there and never failed to pay and still this was the most important issue that day. I feel they looked at him as a lost case and just pushed him out to be someone else's problem on Saturday morning 10.14.2017. I lost my Kaiser that day:(

I recently had to take my 18 year old cat Gracie, to be euthanized. VCA Meadow Hills South Animal Hospital has a wonderful and caring staff, and made every effort to ensure I had as much time with Gracie as I needed. They took us back immediately to a room, carefully explained each step, and placed her in my arms to hold as she fell peacefully asleep. As difficult as this was, the staff made me feel comforted, and sent me home with a paw print memory plaque. Thank you VCA.

I wish there were more stars to give, because they deserve it. Best vet we've ever been to. Friendly, helpful and caring, I can't sing their praises enough. Not only do they make you feel welcome, they make your pet feel safe and loved. Our cat, Milo, is afraid of everyone except us and the staff of Meadow Hills. We had our appointment today and he's letting them pack him around on their hip like it's no big deal. I think my favorite part of the visit is that you're dealing with people who really CARE about animals and know how much your pet means to you. You guys are the best!

Dr. Bauer and all of the staff are absolutely incredible. Every experience we've had, from prescriptions to appointments, has been great! They always text and call to follow up after appointments to check on their patient and answer any other questions you may have. I highly recommend them!
