How to Save Money at Purdy Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't begin to express how grateful I am for Purdy Veterinary Hospital. They have been there for every beloved pet my entire family has been blessed to have in our lives over the past decade. Every single person there, from the doctors and their assistants to the front desk staff, are all such a joy to work with! I am particularly grateful for the understanding and compassion shown by Dr. Elizabeth Dunfield as she has cared for both of my senior furry family members these past two years. She is so clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. I am so glad to have found Purdy Veterinary Hospital. As long as I have furry family members, PVH will be seeing us!

We’ve been bringing our pets to Purdy Veterinary for about 20 years now and they’ve always had a great team working there. While the whole team is top-notch, I want to give a shout out to Dr.Tempi; she is thorough, she explains things easily and she’s an absolute advocate for your pet. The whole team is great. Thanks!

They took incredible care of my 17 year old cat when she was having a dental done. They have been there for my family and me through thick and thin and helped us through some of the saddest times in our lives. Thank you to all of the staff for being so amazing. Thank you to the front end staff, your job is not an easy one and you guys do amazing. Thank you to the vets and techs and kennel attendants (if there are any), for all that you do. Working with animals takes a lot of patience and compassion. I recommend you to all of my dog grooming clients.

I have never had a bad experience here. They don't push expenses on you..they tell you your options and help you sort them. The admin, techs, assistants, docs, specialists...first rate. Trust your babies to them, you wont regret it. By the way, they are very good about getting your baby seen right away in emergencies. They don't always have room, but they certainly do their best.

Love this place...Dr Dana and her assistant helped make my sweet dog's life happier and healthier...and when it became his time to leave us, they couldn't have been kinder, or more compassionate. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, my dog was almost 17 yrs old, and i was an absolute mess when i brought him in...but, it was all very sensitively handled, and as traumatic as it was to say goodbye to my little guy, i felt like they cared about my feelings, and his comfort through every minute...and a few days later, i received the nicest ard in the mail, signed with sweet messages from all of the staff, and the vets in the office...they are really great people, and when I'm ready to adopt a new best friend, i won't want any other vet to care for him, or her...thank you Purdy Veterinary Hospital for being such a great friend to pets and their families...especially for the loving care you gave my grumpy little Buster...i could not be more grateful...❤
