How to Save Money at Evergreen Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I want to start this review by clearly stating that I worked in the veterinary industry for over a decade and ran a hospital as a veterinary practice manager in Tacoma for the last several years. I have VERY high standards, and I am not your typical pet parent. After my vet and former boss retired and I myself decided to leave veterinary medicine, I began looking for a new vet. Knowing the ins and outs and having heard/seen many horror stories of vets in the area, my search was difficult. I absolutely had to have an AAHA accredited vet, as this was a big passion point for me in my career. Once I narrowed that down, I was left with 2 options in my area. I stopped in first, and frankly gave the front desk gal my speech. "This is who I was, what I am now, and what I want. Can you accommodate this with the doctors you have here?" She didn't even blink. Immediately, I scheduled my appointment. Since then, we've been in several times, both for simple appointments to get established, and for sick appointments. After several visits, I now feel confident enough to write my review. My doctor is Dr. Marks, she is exceptional. I am very pleased with her level of communication, the way she handles my pets, and her recommendations. The doctor respects my own professional knowledge and makes me a part of the decision process. When I begin asking for diagnostics, she doesn't hesitate. My pets all seem to like her very much, and I appreciate her gentle approach with some of my more complicated and fearful animals. I have been very impressed at how fast the team in the back is with doing bloodwork and x-rays. My own team wouldn't move that fast if I had a cattle prod. And the best part is that my animals do not show any signs of stress upon their return to me. The front desk team is great too, my watching them was what made me choose this clinic. I am passionate about the front desk, and believe that the rest of the hospital can only be as good as they are. I forget the name of the gal who seems to be in charge with long red hair, but she is a delight. I would have LOVED to have her in my own clinic. She knows me by sight, greets me and my pets, and is very friendly and accommodating with my requests. The lobby, and the rest of the clinic are spotless. Not a speck of dust or smudge on the window. This makes my heart sing. I feel confident that my animals are not going to pick something up in there because their cleaning is on an extremely high level. The team has been great with scheduling our appointments among our 6 pets. Even getting one of my pets in sooner for an urgent visit. I love the pet desk app, and wish I had it at my own clinic. It makes keeping track of your pets, their medications, and their vaccines as well as scheduling (yes, within the app!) very easy! Lastly, their pricing is very reasonable. If you go into this clinic expecting a discount neuter type of pricing schedule you will be disappointed. If you are looking for high quality medicine, backed by industry accreditation then you'll get it here at reasonable prices. I was shocked that this clinic in Gig Harbor was cheaper than my own hospital in Tacoma. Their exam fee is a low $78, and their anesthetic dental cleanings are VERY reasonable compared to other hospitals in the area. I can say this hospital is outstanding with 100% confidence from being an industry professional. We look forward to being clients here for years to come.

This is the first vet I have gone to that my dog isn’t scared of. They are always kind and warm to him, and to me. We always receive excellent service—they always provide me with lots of information, and they answer all of my questions patiently. One tech even referred to herself as “auntie”, which made me feel right at home. I’ll never change vets!

We have used Evergreen Animal Hospital for many, many years for our pets and they are always knowledgeable and helpful. Recently we brought our brand new puppy there for a wellness check with Dr. Kane. We were able to get an appointment within a few days of calling, we arrived on time and were promptly shown to a room where his assistant asked questions and got Brandi ready for the doctor. All of my questions were answered without feeling I was being rushed through the process. Check out was quick and easy too. I highly recommend them!

The veterinarians and staff at Evergreen are amazing! After trying 4 different clinics in Gig Harbor, we finally found the right place for our dogs and cats. Dr. McCann is knowledgeable, caring, and spends extra time answering questions and explaining options for treatment while not pushing unnecessary, costly testing. The staff is very personable, accommodating, and it is easy to get an appointment on an emergency basis. Their fees are very reasonable for the area, too. Highly recommend!

Front staff is excellent and efficient. They try to fit you in quickly on schedule. During pandemic it was waitlisting months out but now it's within the week or days. Can park outside and call when you arrive or you can walk in and wait. Office is clean, rooms are clean. Doctors are efficient and explain in detail any results. However, they are pushing hard dental cleaning and 1500 dollar tooth extractions on dogs over 6 years. The doctor said it would be mandatory. They said this on two separate occasions for two separate dogs. Unfortunately, they are also charging 250 dollars for a visit, even for a tick check and no vaccinations, and we will be switching to a different vet clinic in Gig Harbor.
