How to Save Money at Duvall Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very shocked by our experience. My 17 year old cat was dying and we made the gut wrenching decision to put her down. This vet being the closest, and one we’ve come to off and on for three decades, was the one we called first to bring our cat in. The receptionist told us that in order for our cat to be seen she first needed to have a new patient exam. Not even joking. Our cat is literally dying and needs to be put down ASAP to prevent suffering. Then, after we refused this obviously completely unnecessary exam we were told us we couldn’t be seen for 5 days! This vet is the most coldhearted and cruel place I’ve ever encountered. Take your sweet angels someplace else!

They did wonderful job calming us down! We thought we were losing our senior lady (16.5). You can tell the whole staff really cares and goes the extra mile. Will definitely be our go to vet here in Washington! We have a ole lady back!

Exemplary veterinary office! Compassionate care and impressive, personalized communication about your pet. Dr. G personally called to review findings and the team followed up, referring to my dog as my family member. Duvall Vet Hospital, Dr. G, and her team are THE BEST!

I really wanted to like this vet clinic and Dr. Gengler. We have gone there for several years, and initially we chalked any problems we had to the fact that it was covid, and they weren't able to operate as they would in non-pandemic times. But, we felt that they were constantly upselling and almost shaming us when we wanted to go in a direction that was different from the (expensive) option they always put forward. For example, we use over the counter flea meds and they work great for us. Dr. Gengler and her staff aggressively tried to push us to a prescription option every time we came in. We thought, oh, it's a miscommunication and it must be difficult for them during the pandemic, and so we continued to see them. Then we got a new puppy, and I questioned the need for the lepto vaccine. Dr. Gengler came at us hard, treating us like we are dumb and incapable of understanding why it is necessary. Her approach was so aggressive and it really put us off. At the same time she was recommending very expensive tests for our older dog, which we are willing to do, but we realized we don't trust her recommendations because they are always the most expensive path. I will spend almost anything for my dogs' health but I need a vet that I believe is acting in their interests. We didn't feel like she was a partner in their health. Instead, it felt like she thought we should do what she said without questioning. Oh, and as for that lepto vaccine? Yes, I'll probably do it. I have managed to find the data and information I needed. Dr. Gengler did not help me with that, she just tried to shame me. I hope she can change this behavior as Duvall needs great vets that care for our animals. To be fair, they are going through a major remodel and it is possible she was stressed from the chaos of it. Unfortunately she lost our trust with this interaction but I truly hope that this vet clinic can be a positive for Duvall.
