How to Save Money at Meridian Street Veterinary
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Veterinary Doctor, Jake Seril, is amazing!!! He has been me and my boyfriends, dog vet for 5 years. Jake has done many visits/check-ups with our dog, Dixie. Dixie is 15 years old and will be turning 16 in July 2023. He completed her knee surgery 5 years ago, shes now a bionic dog that walks great! 😃 By our choice, he has been doing blood work every 6 months to ensure all her levels are where they should be. As our dog is a senior animal, we need to make sure that her organs are properly functioning. For far her levels are perfect! Right where they should be. Our poor baby was sick. Jake was so kind, he had a full schedule, but he squeezed in a time slot to see Dixie. Jake looked her over, ran some tests and discovered she had a lower GI infection. He got her all dialed in with IV fluids, anti nausea medicine, and antibiotics. We are on our 3rd day and Dixie is looking SO much better! It's looking like our 15 year old baby girl will make a full recovery! There is a reason we make the 1.5 hour trek up north to see Dr. Jake!

They are the best! Saved my cat, Sir Purrs a Lot. If you want to know everything about your pet then Jake is the Vet! He is so modest too. Very easy to talk to and everyone else that works there is personable, kind and gentle. I cannot be happy enough with their care and attention to detail. It's been almost 120 bonus days now thanks to Jake!

Dr. Jake Searle is the best. He has helped us several times. He drove from Burlington to Lake Steven to help my dog Klowe cross over the Rainbow Bridge. Now I have a very ill puppy. Emergency vets were a twelve hour wait. I called him first thing in the morning he told us to bring her right in. He took such good care of her. He saved her life. He told us if we had waited 2 more days she would not have made it. Of course he is in Bellingham now but I will drive the hour and a half in a heart beat.

Really great experience here! Dr. Jake and his crew listened to our concerns and did a thorough check up on our over weight, grumpy kitty. He had such a calming presence and I think it made all the difference for our kitty. You can tell how much this crew loves and respects animals. Thankful for them!

I was able to get in to the see the vet same day due to a cancelation. The initial appt they offered was only 1 1/2 days away. The clinic has a great feel. The staff are positive and calm. Dr. Searle is exactly how a previous commenter made him sound. He is calm, knowledgeable, takes his time and answers questions. I did not feel rushed during the appt. When I pulled up to the clinic I saw Dr. Searle outside with an old pup and his owner running the dog a bit so that he could get a better idea of how his lungs sounded (I over heard what he was saying since my windows were open). A very invested, compassionate and patient vet and vet techs. 💗
