How to Save Money at Peninsula Animal Referral Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Id like to Thank the whole staff for helping my mother and I through this tough time. Went here on the 6th of September cause my moms dog was acting very odd not eating and not using the bathroom. Turned out she was very ill and in a lot of pain. She was too old for surgery 14yrs old and no meds would help. Sadly we had to put her to sleep that night and were heartbroken. The staff were so helpful and friendly and the let us take all the time we needed to say our goodbyes to Angyl. Im thankful that they helped us through this hard time and ensured us that Angyl was in no more pain. We got a sweet card in the mail from them signed by all the staff which made us cry. It was very thoughtful of them. Now were waiting for a call to pick up her ashes

I would like to give a very big “Thank You,” to this Emergency After Hours Care Hospital for their care and compassion in response to a very rapid onset of Urinary issues with my Chihuahua! Their receptionist in the front office could not been better and very open to answering all my questions. Also, each of the Vet Technicians (Taylor and Italia) was wonderful with my baby and rapid in their response. (This business was in overload, just like: Bay Beach Veterinary and The Cove.) Actually, Bay Beach and the Cove was not taking anymore animals in and telling people to stay at home!!! Bay Beach was very supportive on the telephone and had me download the new “Vetster App,” and advised me; this is what all the veterinarians in the area were going to today. Their is a shortage in Veterinarians, to care for our pets. I waited online and paid for a Telemedicine visit at 3am in the morning and “NO Veterinary,” ever showed up! But, the Good News is: they are very reputable and refunded all of my money! ( They lady I spoke with was: Erica) I was so glad to see, “Dr. Reed “ at Peninsula Animal Referral Center on Sunday, March 26th, I did not know what to do! I truly, appreciate everything, this team did for me and my baby! Their intervention was on target! I followed all instructions and on Monday morning got my Baby’s urine to my Veterinarian: Dr. Russo at Edinburgh Animal Hospital! The front office staff was immediately on what had happened over the weekend and Dr. Russo, called me within less than 2-hours for updates and with a plan. A Ultrasound was scheduled and all things turned out GREAT!❤️ I will always, be grateful to Peninsula Animal Referral Center for their care, compassion, and intervention. They were able to get my baby quiet and relaxed. Please, remember them if you can’t get in to a local emergency area! They were wonderful!❤️ Blessing to each of you and I am so grateful❤️ C Herron

Monday, I had to make the hardest decision and put my sweet girl down. Not only did i call eight vet offices before them (due to my location) and was turned away. When i called, they told me to head that way, when i arrived they took her back immediately and treated me with respect while i was a ball of emotions, unfortunately my sweet girl was 17 years old and not in the best health. They gave me as much time as i needed to say my goodbyes. I received the sweetest card from them a few days after but hands down the best experience for such a hard time. Super caring and allowed my girl not to be in pain anymore. Thank you so much! (Pictures below-the card where they wrote very thoughtful things, the paw print of my girl, and of course a photo of my girl)

My first and only experience with this business was horrible. The tech that I interacted with had no compassion and came across rude. She rushed me while on the phone. After arriving and checking in, the tech comes out to tell me that there would be a 3 hour wait. My dog had blood coming from his bottom, which has never happened. She offered me a pad for him like that would aid in finding out what was going on with him. From there, I stated that I would go to a different clinic down the road. The tech then proceeds to try and tell me how to get there, and as I describe landmarks to ensure she’s speaking about the same place, she over-talked me and gave wrong directions. Glad I knew where I was going. I will not be returning to this location.

My furson passed away in my arms at home last Saturday and we called and was told to bring my baby in. The staff were really kind and helpful gave me extra time to say my final good bye to my baby. I had him for 12 years so it was an extremely hurtful experience having to say my final goodbyes to him. I got a piece of mail from the peninsula animal referral center today. They sent us a card signed by multiple staff that just brought tears to my eyes. It was very thoughtful and caring. I am definitely glad and grateful I came across this location to get my baby cremated. I am at more ease knowing he was placed in good hands. Thank you so very much and I can't wait to get the call to bring him back home. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone needing care or any other unfortunate services for their pets. It meant alot to me and my children. Thank you again from the Manago family.
