How to Save Money at Animal Medical Center of Cascades
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We just moved to the area and our frenchie was having major allergies. From setting up an appointment, to the appointment reminders, to being greeted in a friendly manner as we came in, the overall care everyone gave to our frenchie- AMC in Cascades was outstanding in every aspect. Our frenchie was feeling better the same day. They provide you with their recommendations for care, your options, and they don’t pressure you into anything. I can tell that everyone on staff truly cared about the pets that were coming in. We are so happy to have found AMC- the customer service is top notch!

If only Google had a 10-star rating system… I have been heartbroken since a late February, 2023 visit to a different vet in South Riding, Virginia, who I’m very tempted to name. Because my 9 year old dog Stella (pit/mutt mix, my best friend) has not improved since that vet appointment over 4 months ago. In fact she’s gotten worse. But today, with my first visit to Dr. Mitchell, the only vet who will EVER care for my 2 dogs in the future, a clear path to a healthy life for Stella is crystal clear. After 10 minutes of reviewing the paperwork I provided from the previous vet, sitting on the floor with Stella checking her out, speaking in plain and simple language that I could understand…Dr. Mitchell…clearly a brilliant diagnostician…found the problem. Yes, we’ll wait a few days for the confirmation from the blood work sent out, but Dr. Mitchell knew immediately what’s going on with Stella — thyroid. I have a strange mix of total joy having found Dr. Mitchell and a path forward for my beloved dog…and sheer anger at the previous vet in South Riding who despite taking thousands of dollars from me flat out missed the thyroid diagnosis. That doctor will be the recipient of a scathing Google review today. You’ll see “it” in 5 minutes with Dr. Mitchell. This is next level, the best care available for our beloved pets. It’s hard to describe in words. You just know…it simply doesn’t get any better, anywhere. What a great group of people at this practice. Brilliant, kind and fair people. (I couldn’t believe how little the cost was for numerous issues and meds provided.)

My husband and I have been taking our two dogs to Animal Medical Center of Cascades for over six years. The vets and vet techs there are so amazing! They really care about our pets and provide excellent insight and recommendations that help our pets’ health. The service is always friendly and appointments are easy to make via phone call. I highly recommend this vet practice!

When I moved to Sterling, I looked for a vet closer than the Ashburn vet we had been going to. AMCC was recommended. My dog had been in for a number of issues (she had seizures and a brain tumor). All of the staff and Dr. Mitchell were amazing with her. Most of the times I brought her in were for ancillary issues (eating a pair of underwear, not sleeping) and they always took her issues seriously, but still showed compassion and care. My dog passed away recently due to complications from her seizures, and the staff sent a beautiful note that was not just boilerplate, but showed they knew the dog they were talking about.

Sarah and Dr. Mitchell took such great care of our seven year old bulldog during a needed dental procedure. They were very comprehensive and are experienced working with brachycephalic breeds. The procedure and recovery went flawlessly. Thank you both and everyone at AMCC!
