How to Save Money at Smithfield Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
My experience was a positive, pleasant and worth driving 2 hours. I was concerned about my 2 fur friends who both have issues with their eyes. The vet took time with us and I never felt rushed. The staff was so friendly. When I spoke to the doctor I had to explain that I had to keep costs down and he never made me feel I was a bad owner. He gave me other options so we could proceed with taking care of my 2 dogs eye issues. I’m hoping that whoever needs a vet they use this office. These people really care for you and you pets

With my cat being so nervous, they were excellent and understanding and took really good care of her. Other than that my dog has been going here for 7 years and now with dr bowe this location has exceeded all expectations. Go above and beyond because they really care about the animals. I received a call from the vet and he walked me through how to take care of an issue with my cat who is so anxious catching her is a job. He knew I couldn’t get her in and some vets will look down on that but being walked through all the steps to take care of her at home so she was comfortable just made me never want to have to switch vets. The staff is all pleasant and help in any way possible and answered all the questions I had since there were a lot. I’d give a 15/10 if I could

As a new customer trying to get an appointment for my ill cat, I was able to get in immediately and easily. The practice was easy to find, parking was plentiful, and the waiting area was comfortable and roomy. The check in process was easy and the receptionist was friendly and polite. I found both the Vet Tech and the Vet to be friendly and competent without excessive waiting. They were easy to work with and had us out the door and home with the appropriate medicines within an hour! I was very pleased and intend to switch my cat to this practice as her new permanent vet.

These ladies deserve some love!!! Aside from being the best vet office (I drive 45 minutes to come to this vet), they have the most amazing team!! I lost my phone today while I was there (long story) and they printed me out a map to get home, let me use their phone, and went above and beyond to help me get everything straightened out!! I just can’t believe on top of how good they treat my babies, they also treat everyone else just as good. I highly recommend them for their knowledge, the care they give my pups, and their customer service!!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Traylor !!! I have seen several different doctors there, and nobody has the warm, sincere, genuine love like she does ! You just don’t find that anymore ! We have 5 dogs and I make a point to request her for my two dogs Kissy and Jill. I also told my parents who have three dogs and we live in the same house about Dr. Traylor and they said they agree but can’t always get her when they having a emergency appointment but that they recommend her when it’s a scheduled appointment!! She’s one in a million 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷 Love , kissy & Jill FANTON as well as Flex, Diva, Sophie EDMUNDS !
