How to Save Money at Southern Hills Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
The prices are pretty standard so no complaints there. At this point I’ve went three or four times, for my cats. My appointment was scheduled every time for 5:30pm. I didn’t mind this, but maybe this is attributing to the service i experienced. Every time I’ve went the same vet tech(?) has led me back and been the one mainly communicating with me. The first time he was kinda short and seemed irritated. I wrote it off as a long day and it was getting late. The next time was the same. I was told some tests I’d need done on my cats and was given the option of if I wanted to do them all that day or not. These were not urgent tests- this was to prepare for a spay. I chose to do some that day, then the rest on my next appointment. I don’t know why but this also led to some rudeness. After my last appointment finishing the tests, I was met with the same shortness along with being asked about if I could pay when told the price. I’ve always paid, never had my card declined, and I’ve never complained about the prices. Preston Thornton was the vet who came in after to confirm they looked well. He was not short or rude, but seemed disinterested and on the two prior appointments had tried telling me I should schedule with Angels of Assisi. Due to it being low-cost and faster. If I’m coming to you, and paying for your service I clearly am not interested in that. When I initially called to see about becoming a client I made it clear my main focus was to get my animals altered. It was a bad experience over-all with the staff seeming disinterested, short, and like they wanted me to go elsewhere. I was not going to review but upon sharing my experience with my current vet I was told I should.

I have nothing but high praise to give this place and am so glad I found a great clinic to bring my cats! The assistants and techs are attentive and kind, and the doctors are thorough and gentle. Their rates are extremely reasonable, and the business hours are SO convenient. Bonus points for the sparkling cleanliness of the building and the calm, quiet lobby. You guys are obviously a great team, and I'll recommend you to anyone. :-) Many thanks!

Staff is absolutely beyond amazing. Not being from the area and having to be up here for my husbands job our sweet girl Meredith needed her shots and we knew it would be a while before being home to our regular veterinary we found this place and absolutely love them. They are very caring and listened and answered all my questions whether they may have been dumb or not. Whenever we are in this area we will definitely be using this vet!!!! My pets have been going here for about a year after a devastating experience with my previous vet of 20 years. They are all very friendly and easy to talk to. They even put up with my pup when it’s time to get her nails trimmed. I know it’s not an easy task with her. So far, so good! My pup is getting ready to get spayed there and I feel good knowing that she is in caring hands!
