How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had a good experience at Blue Pearl. I had called 3 other Er hospitals which were to capacity. I called Blue Pearl ER Hospital and was told to bring Belle right in. The receptionist was so sweet and understanding. We arrived and they got us right back. They took Belle back examined her and started meds to make her comfortable. Due to the triage system, it took a while to see the veterinarian. We could call right from the room and check on her as often as we wanted. Dr. Riddle was very thorough and gave us 3 different options of treatment. We decided to leave her overnight for diagnostics and testing. He called me as soon as the test results came back and I was able to bring her home. Everyone there was attentive to Belle's needs and ours. During a scary time for us, they were angels on earth.

Very efficient, professional, knowledgeable and courteous staff. The online pre-registration was simple and once we arrived, even with several folks ahead of us, we were promptly seen. Diagnosis and treatments for my puppy's snakebite was thorough and he is doing great. This clinic will take the best care of your pet. I trust them and should I need emergency care again Blue Pearl would be my first choice. From the doctors, to the technicians, and the wonderful receptionist, the staff is very kind and helpful. Cannot say enough good things about them! Thank you Blue Pearl Clinic.

I've cared for dogs for nearly two decades and this week was my first time that I had to take my dogs to an emergency vet. My little guys trapped a raccoon under my shed, where I could not get to them. I eventually scared the raccoon out and the dogs followed. My 13-year-old senior started throwing up foam about an hour and a half later. He would not stop throwing up and he had a cut near his eye. So I loaded up both dogs and off we went. I drove past the emergency vet three blocks for my home and came here instead. I do not regret that. The staff was incredibly kind and compassionate towards us. The vet tech cradled my sweet senior dog as if he were a baby because he wasn't feeling well enough to walk. The vet reassured me that he wasn't sick with all the things I feared. And when above and beyond helping me understand exactly what the next steps needed to be for him. My shy dog felt comfortable letting the staff handle her. That never happens. I was shocked. I hope I never have to come back to the emergency vet, but if I do, I'm coming here.

Great service, friendly staff. It can be expensive and there is long waits for results if doing scans/x-rays but I think that is and should be expected this day and age ..It is an emergency vet! I appreciate the fact they are open hours my normal vet is not and could see my dog when I needed her to be seen . They staff was kind and patiently let me give them my dogs history since I wasn't sure what was wrong her. I truly appreciated that it allowed me to leave not feeling like we could have missed anything. The only reason I deducted one star is because I left with only the bill and verbal answers to all the results and I would have liked to have had a copy of blood work and all other tests that were run. I'm a detail person so maybe it's just me. I would undoubtedly recommend them based on my experience.

If zero or negative stars was an option, that's what I'd give them. Had an awful experience as soon as I walked through the door. Staff had an attitude problem, refused to listen, and interrupted every other word. The "nursing" staff looked at my dog's gums and said he's probably stable for now. They didn't listen to his lungs or check anything else. They refused treatment of my dog hiding behind capacity numbers. He could've been treated in the room but the staff refused and asked me to call them back to see if they had space to treat him. Overall it was an awful experience and I'd never go back!
