How to Save Money at Paws For Holistic Pet Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Verna (Dr. Becky) earned our respect when she helped our elderly black Lab, Annie. Annie was a nervous wreck at vet visits until we started with Paws. It was clear that Annie was the center of attention at each visit. Unfortunately, our beloved dog passed over the rainbow bridge, but we are so appreciative that Dr. Becky loved her as we did, and that she was able to make her last couple of months better than we thought possible. If we ever get another dog, Dr. Becky will be our only choice for care.

We are having a few medical issues with Hanno, our 5 y.o. German Shepherd. He had his first seizure about two months ago, then another one a month ago. At that point we opted to stop all pharmaceuticals (Apoquel, ProHeart 12) especially after learning they can cause seizures. Going forward we will get titers testing done before doing any further vaccinations. We looked around Boise for a holistic vet practiced in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) so we could holistically heal Hanno and thought we’d found one. The results were less than impressive and we are still waiting to hear back from them a week later! I remembered that Rebecca L G Verna is a Holistic Vet and I contacted her. This morning, she spent an hour and fifteen minutes on the facetime call with my wife and me. She asked a TON of questions and even looked at Hanno over the video. Her knowledge is impressive and I felt like she was really invested in his well-being. She gave Hanno more attention on the facetime call than the local “TCVM” vet did in person. Not an exaggeration at all. Going forward, our go to vet is Dr. Becky Verna at Paws for Holistic Pet Care and we will use the local vet to run the labs and do the ‘hands on’ things we cannot do over the phone. You want a vet who will lean forward into the care of your doggie, I highly recommend Rebecca L G Verna. Thank you Becky!

When it was time to help our 14yo pup cross the bridge, we called Dr Becky based on several recommendations. She made the entire, heartbreaking experience as easy and peaceful as possible for our family by coming to the home to perform the euthanization. Her presence was calming, loving, and respectful of the difficulty we were going through. What a blessing to have her here with us for the most difficult part of this transition. Thank you ❤️ 🐕 🌈

Dr. Verna not only loves and professionally cares for our two beloved Bosties (Boston Terriers), Zion and Zoey, she calls us from time to time just to make sure they are doing fine! We know of no other doc who would do that! She truly cares about our furry family members, and we all love her, too. ~ The Schaefer Family ~

Dr. Verna was very personable, understanding, and patient with my doggie! She made sure my baby was comfortable and well taken care of. She was having problems of when I touched her on her side she would yelp with pain. After her treatment she is all better and no longer having issues! Highly recommend!
