How to Save Money at Harris Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

This has been our Vet for our dogs for many years, and when we had to put one of our dogs down they went above and beyond in comforting us in that tough time. They love our dogs just like they were one of their own and you just don't find that at some of the other Vets we used to go to.

This vet is amazing and my review was 5 stars, I'm changing it to 3 stars. I recently underwent surgery and have had to have a family member pick up my dogs medicine as I'm unable to drive. I've had to send the family member to get the meds several times so far until I'm able to myself, which didn't seem like a big deal. This time, today, May 23rd 2024 at 11:25am, my family member arrived to get the medicine and brought it to me. I was made aware that the person working the front desk, apparently she was older with a pony tail, was basically harassing my family member to be added to my dogs stuff as an owner since she keeps coming to pick up the meds. She also harassed her about a past due rabies shot. She went on to tell my family member, apparently in a very snotty tone, "I'm sure the place he lives at requires it" and she also said "if you care about the animal you'll get the rabies shot". Which to me, sounds like a sort of threat that they'll call my living place if I don't get the shot. Also seems if you can't afford something because of your own surprise medical bills, you will absolutely be judged for it and made to feel like a bad owner. Which I most certainly am not. And if going through a gut retching surgery, causing strain and financial hardship, isn't enough to earn this woman's respect, kindness, or compassion then nothing will ever earn that for you. Little to this person's knowledge, I have already made plans to get the shot for my dog elsewhere at a cheaper price. This is the vet I use to get medication and have my dog seen when feeling unwell. Everything else, I go to cheaper places. No harm in that. I've had nothing but good things to say about this vet. Everyone is so kind and caring except for this person. They made my already stressful situation, just a bit more stressful. The surgery I had has taken a heavy toll on me finacially. So to be treated as if I don't care about my dog when I'm already struggling to pay for the meds and visits because of a crappy temporary situation makes me extremely angry! This person needs to have more respect for peoples personal lives. Not everyone can magically conjure up the money for a shot. Especially after such a life changing event such as the one I'm in. If I wasn't in a financial hardship I would have had it taken care of a month ago. It was highly disrespectful and I am honestly switching vets because of this one person asap! Beware of her! Don't let her make you feel like a bad owner if your legitimately going through a hard time. To the owner/boss of this vet. Whoever was working the front on the date and time I listed above. They need a SERIOUS course on respect towards the customer and learn compassion in all cases because you never know what someone is going through. She didn't know all her facts about my situation and now has made herself and the business look ridiculous. All by not having common compassion and understanding for unknown variables. This is why you treat EVERYONE with kindness. You never know. Also, throwing an empty threat into the mix is not okay! "I'm sure the place he lives at requires rabies shots." What does saying that even do? Does it help me afford it any faster? Does it make me feel better about coming here? Does it make me want to keep coming to this vet? Does it fix my temporary finacial situation? Does it make me heal from my surgery even faster, making me ultimately return to work faster and start making normal wages again? No, no, no, no, and no. It seems her sole purpose in saying that was to guilt trip me into getting the shot? It's unclear but clearly, a person that belittles a stranger she knows nothing about, solely because their late on a rabies shot, is uncalled for. Furthermore, putting my family member in the middle of that is so unprofessional. Side note, every single OTHER person, besides the woman described above, is great. They are model employees in the animal health care business and should be highly praised for their compassion, understanding, and heartful approach they take with animals and owners.

It was my first time coming here but the emergency vet was not taking anymore pets for the day because they were at capacity. Harris animal hospital was able to get me In the same day. My poor baby was in pain and they were able to get him all better and gave me a treatment plan to prevent future issues. Dr. Simon explained everything to me in terms I could understand. The staff was more than welcoming and made sure my Tucker was taken care of. They definitely have a new patient and I’ll be sure that I will be coming back to them

You know I used to really love Harris animal hospital. I've been taking my dog there. Grace for over a decade and they've been the best but here in the past year or so. I don't know what's happened but they are very short and I don't get the customer service I used to just this morning I called to ask about some heart guard well in the past, The lady always said oh, that's no problem Come on up and we'll have it ready for you but now I'm getting told when I call and In a semi rude voice. We require 24-hour notice. So we'll text you when it's ready. Total difference from the old Harris animal hospital I used to know. Is it really that hard to take a box of heart guard throw it in the bag, take my money and say have a nice day which would take less than 5 minutes. Wow you guys. You don't have to worry about me as a customer No more. Folks, what's going on in our world today? Does nobody care about one another anymore? It's so sad. Prices have skyrocketed customer service has plummeted. Dr Harris would be ashamed of this. I'm so disappointed. I used to love you guys, think about this, instead of scorning me and telling me about proper procedures that I have never heard in 12 years giving you my business all you had to do is say we will text you when your dogs heartgard is ready and I would have said thank you.The time you spent telling me proper procedures lol you could have thrown the box of heart guard in a bag and been done with it but now You've lost a loyal customer. Some people aren't made for customer service,I deal with customers every day and I always thank them for there business, our world has lost compassion for one another. I guess I'm just old school when businesses appreciated there customers who keep them in business.

It is difficult to find the words to fully describe how incredibly thankful I am to Harris Animal Hospital and Dr. Lucinda Hodges for saving the life of my dear Peke Stella. Stella was rescued from a deplorable puppy mill in N.C., where she and about 50 other dogs had spent their entire lives in tiny crates stacked upon each other. They sat in their own urine, feces, rotting food and dirty water. Stella and her puppy were taken to a shelter, where the puppy was adopted but Stella stood to be gassed. Meanwhile, her malnourishment had led to such severe dental disease that her jaw was fractured in two places, and she was living with terrible pain. Dr. Hodges performed an extensive jaw restoration, caring for Stella personally for months as she recovered with her wired jaw. Stella had never seen flowers before and was terriifed of everything -- even walking on grass -- when Dr. Hodges took her in. That was in the spring of 2013. Four years later, Stella is full of life! She LOVES to eat and play; her tail is constantly wagging, and she adores her "brother," Sam, a Shih Tzu rescue. She also can be found napping curled up with her two feline brothers. She rules the household, and every day I silently thank Dr. Hodges and Harris Animal Hospital for giving life to this girl. Thank you!
