How to Save Money at Pembroke Animal Hospital Inc
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Friendly and so understanding. Everyone explain everything so well. I really appreciate the nurse giving me tips on how to give my grandcat their meds. I love it every time I go.

The office staff were inviting and explained all. The vet wa tts absolutely wonderful, as well as the The vet tech. I just can't say enough about Pembroke Animal Hospital! So pleasant. I will be recommending them to all my friends and family. My sister, Pam Anderson, recommended them to me. Thank you so much Pam Anderson!

I took my baby there the end of May! The staff was very friendly even though I kept forgetting what they explained! Still they kindly explained it over and over to me! My mind was wondering cuz I was so worried about my baby! The doctor OMG, he was very knowledgeable! He did not spend the 15 minutes or less most doctors do to get you in and out! He took his time with my baby! You can tell he really cares! I highly recommend this practice!

I'm a first time pet mom and I have/had no idea what I was doing. I explained that I'm a new pet mom and you think that would be noted in our chart so that when explaining things it's not explained like I know what your talking about OR how to do what needs to me done. I purchased medication for my puppy not knowing nor it being explained to be that puppies/dogs do not easily take medication. I followed the instructions and gave with food. My puppy clearly smelled the pill and refused to eat which means he is not taking the medicine. Had it being a explained to me what to do to make it easier I wouldn't have wasted money nor my time leaving work to go get the medication. Poor communication! NO empathy nor care for new pet owners. Dr. Gooding was AMAZING but poor communication with staff. I will not be returning **UPDATE TO RESPONSE: "Just pick up the phone and call"?! Clearly there is poor communication with your staff because I DID call back! Common sense may not be common to all but I have it! I'm a well educated woman that knows how to communication and handle business with integrity. Something that managment lacks. Do not insult my intelligence! When I in fact called back I was told I would have to pay for the medication all over again. No other reason solution was given! So when responding make sure all the facts are gathered and/or the proper notes are taken and passed on the management when there is a upset client because the lady that initially told me I would have to pay all over again was not management. Perhaps passing such a concern to someone who can actually assist would alleviate confession and stress on pet parent!

I needed a vet urgently after I wasn’t able to see my previous vet due to relocating to Hampton. PAH was able to set me up with an appt right away which I was grateful for. The vet worked with me to help understand the problem and recommend a specialist once something was out of his wheelhouse. This vet is a little old school compared to some I have been to, but it was not a problem for me. I will say, if you are a pet parent like me that prefers to be in the appointment, this is not for you. They are very cautious (understandably) about Covid and have strict rules still in place. This is a small family business with one vet, so patience is needed.
