How to Save Money at Unleashed Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My large breed, pain reactive dog had a laceration to his eye, and his Primary Vet was unable to see him at the last minute, so we ended up at Unleashed. I was nervous using a new vet when he's reactive with the one he knows. Even Knowing we had a pain reactive dog, the staff was still willing to work with him and understood that he may need to be sedated to be seen. Even with behavior concerns we were still welcomed!!! Upon initial call they took his information, and added him to the list. When they were ready to see him they texted us and we headed their way. Once we arrived we were immediately put into an exam room. The Vet Techs were wonderful and understood her was scared, and reactive but they worked with him, rather than forcing him to do things he didn't like. Dr Raf was just as amazing as his staff, he understood our dog doesn't like men and made his exam quick but thorough, while also keeping our pup comfortable. Overall we were in and out in about an hour for an evaluation of an eye laceration, and we paid similar to what we would've paid at our primary vet! I strongly recommend Unleashed for your pets minor emergencies, and sicknesses. I hope to not need their services again, but I'm happy to know they're an amazing locally owned, non corporate option!

My Great Dane had a UTI that caused bleeding. My regular Vet could see him in 2 weeks. These guys were right there when needed with the best care, the best disposition and were so very kind. My boy is now on the mend thanks to them. And did I mention affordable? I can not recommend them enough. So happy to have found them. Thank you for all you do

I brought my dog in with some concerning intestinal issues when using the bathroom. My entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. When I was on the way with my dog, I called ahead and they got some information from me before I arrived. As I arrived, the front desk lady (Angee) was welcoming and quick to put me into a room. She handed me a small amount of paperwork to fill out as I waited. After a few minutes, she came to check in on me, take my paperwork, and apologize for the wait. They had just had a case come in that was much more severe than mine. A bit later, another lady came in to gather additional information to provide to the vet. She was so pleasant and put me and my pup at ease. Shortly after the vet came in, assessed my pup, and was happy to answer any and all of my questions. At checkout, many staff members came up to love on my pup once more and make sure I didn’t have any additional needs/questions. I was surprised with the expense of this trip being somewhat affordable for an emergency visit. If I am to have any other pet emergencies, this location will be my priority to go straight to. I will recommend this office to anyone.

They were quick and friendly. I called in and the receptionist was able to get us on the waitlist and text me when I could come in so I didn’t wait in the waiting room for too long. They were so gentle with my dog. I highly recommend them!

Best vet office I've been to. Unfortunately had to make an emergency visit but they were quick to take us. Office and rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and really care about the people and pets. The only feedback is I wish they were a little more informative on the procedure beforehand. That's also on me to ask questions but I wasn't fully thinking. They were super informative on the after care.
