How to Save Money at Burke Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Over the past 5 years I have experienced the best vet care for my dog Max and my cats Rascal and Tigger. The admin staff has always remained courteous and professional showing concern and care for my pets as if it was their own pet. Each of the vets I’ve been privileged to see with these three furbabies have all been outstanding! Recently I brought Rascal in who is my more nervous furbaby and Dr Alt was very calm and kind and Rascal breezed through his appointment with flying colors (black and white kitty). Again, any vet in this office is true pet lovers and explains things well. They even call after appointments to make sure the pet who just had the appointment is fine after shots and such. Anytime any of my friends ask for a vet recommendation I tell them about Burke Veterinary Clinic without hesitation. Go now! You will not regret it. ❤️🥰

We recently moved to the area and were looking for a new vet for our golden retriever. From booking an appointment, to reminders, to check-in, to the actual appointment, and after visit care, we were impressed with the level of professionalism, attentiveness, and care demonstrated by all the staff at Burke Vet Clinic. Our dog is very anxious by nature, and the staff was so patient and gentle with him.

I am so happy to have found this office. I really wanted to be able to go into the room with my dog so I could point out the areas of concern and talk to the vet in person. Many office still do not allow this however, in this office, you can join your fur child as long as you wear a mask. The front staff answered all of my questions, were friendly when I had to reschedule and they are transparent with fees. I have been to many offices where they request unnecessary visits/ tests and this office is not one of them. The office manager was so friendly and came to greet us both when we arrived, the assistants were caring and pleasant and Dr. Carter was thorough, intelligent, honest and kind. I appreciated her taking the time to answer my questions, giving me her honest opinion on what she would do if I were her, providing me with options and helping to work out a feasible treatment plan for my dog. 5 stars all around. These are a group of professionals/neighbors that deserve your business. Give them a visit if you have a fur friend. :)

I have been coming here for over 8 years. Never pushy, always honest and reasonably priced vet care. My 13-year-old Catahoula mix suffers from a lot of anxiety and this is the only place he feels comfortable. The care is not only affordable but superb, they always follow up, even days after your initial appointment via phone. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. I used to live in Arlington but moved to Winchester a couple years ago and STILL DRIVE all the way to Burke. I never go anywhere else unless it is an emergency. Been to a lot of vets in many locations throughout Virginia and DC, this is hands down the best place you can take your furkids. Thank you folks!! Truly grateful for the exceptional care I can consistently expect from Burke Veterinary Clinic.

My family LOVES this practice and everyone who works there! They have provided superb, gentle care to our cat, and they always telephone the day after he has visited to see how he's doing after a shot or procedure. They never rush appointments but take the time to answer questions and provide all the information we need to make good choices. We could not be happier with the vets and support staff here and recommend them heartily.
