How to Save Money at Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First visit. Great staff. Great doctor. Small facility but clean. Well organized. Didn't feel rushed. Doctor and his assistant took their time. Explained things clearly. Welcomed our questions and comments. Happy with the service so far.

I just moved to the area and my pet had a mishap. I knew they were right down the road and rushed to their business to get him seen. They were compassionate and immediately saw my pet to make sure he was ok. I was worried about finding a new vet in a new area I can trust but they have warned my trust.

My mother has always brought our first dog here and when I received the dog that I have , I decided to take him somewhere else. Well over the weekend my Dog ate to much food or something on a Saturday and when he woke up Sunday he was throwing up and had bad diarrhea. He was drinking water and still eating but later in the afternoon he would just seem to throw it up anything that was ate that morning and he still had diarrhea. Well Monday he stayed home with someone because he usually comes to work with me which I'm very thankful to have that opportunity. Well he seemed fine playing and all but about 12am I woke up to him throwing up basically everything he had ate that day and he had horrible diarrhea. So this morning I called my vet that I usually take him to which I won't name any names even though I should so others won't be treated this way and I was plain and simply told that they could not see him because the Dr only seen Scheduled animals on Tuesday and Thursday and they couldn't make any exceptions. Long story short, I love my dog as if he is a family member and a Miniature human with hair and I would do anything I could for him. He has a regular diet, he isn't fed a ton of treats but he gets all the love I have and when that Regular Vet turned me, I just couldn't believe it. So I called Veterinary Services and they had no problem telling me that even though I didn't have an appointment and they were busy they would fit my dog in to be seen. I will not take my dog to that other vet and from now on he will come here. 7-11-2022 I brought my dog in to be Neutered yesterday and everything went smoothly thankfully and it all went great because of the people whom work there. That's why I bring my dog Frankie to this Vet. There professionalism and ability to handle any situation gives me peace of mind knowing that my Dog is in Amazing Hands. I can't Thank them enough for making sure my Dog was taken care of and had a smooth surgery.... no matter what my dog comes in for, they always make sure he is taken care of and treated as if he was their own pet and I'm so very grateful for that....
