How to Save Money at VCA Jordan River Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

VCA Jordan River Animal Hospital has had, bar none, the customer service of any animal hospital I have been to. Throughout our 16 years of marriage, my wife and I have shoped around for vets around the valley for our dogs. And once we found these guys, we have never looked anywhere else. They explain every option available to you and understand that some of us can't spend the money on vet bills, like one would for medical bills for the family. They have always been very understanding and have rendered nothing but the best care for our dogs. When it comes to end of life measures for a man's best friend. As much as I hope to never have to go through that again, I had to go with a cheaper option. It was the worst experience a pet owner could experience. I have used these services more than once for such a need with VCA Jordan River Animal Hospital, and they absolutely made it as understanding and compassionate as could be desired. I would highly recommend this place, without hesitation, to anyone who loves their pet and wants only the best treatment for any type of pet medical services. Thank you, VCA, for all that you have done for us and our pets.

LORENE NEWSOME

We needed to get into a vet this morning to humanely euthanize our oldest cat who was seizuring and dying. We called our vet of over 30 years and they have become so unbearably busy and more about making money than caring for animals, that they couldn’t get us in and referred us to West Jordan. We called and without any hesitation whatsoever, they booked us immediately and were waiting for us. The staff was very kind and compassionate, caring for our cat, Frankie, with the gentlest of hands and heart. They have won our business, going forwards and I will refer all of my family, friends, coworkers, and rescue groups to this group. Thank you for making the most heartbreaking moment a little easier.

This past Thursday (8/3), my son came home to our 11 month old pitbull (Nova) broke out in hives and his left eye swollen. We instantly gave him Benadryl and called Petsmart Banfield. We were advised to monitor him and if the swelling doesn’t go down to take him to the ER. Swelling went down, but by Friday night the hives were worse and he wasn’t eating or drinking. His urine was dark so as took him to three different ER’s and was turned away. Saturday I called VCA Jordan River animal hospital and got him right in. Dr. Llewellyn was amazing. He explained that Nova had an anaphylactic shock and we are lucky he’s alive, he said we did the right thing by starting him on Benadryl but whatever stung him, bit him, or whatever he ingested caused a severe allergic reaction. He put him on steroids and Nova is now doing amazing. He is back to his normal hyper self. Dr. Llewellyn also said that we was the 4th patient that he was told was turned away from the ER. We received a phone call from Dr. Llewellyn called this morning (8/7) to check on Nova. I think it’s safe to say that we found Nova a new vet! Thank you, Dr. Llewellyn and staff! Photos are from day 1 to today!

Great vet clinic. Dr. Timothy Llewellyn is an amazing vet. Have moved 3 clinics to keep my pets seeing him because he is so great with my furry family. Wouldn't go anywhere else if I can help it. I wanted to put a positive review of Dr. McMullen as well. Have taken our fur babies to see him a few times when needed and I really like him as well. Overall a great clinic. Staff is friendly and treats our babies with love and kindness. Natalie is one of my favorites, see her alot and she's great. She remembers all my babies. Her and Dr. Llewellyn were there for us thru the loss of my grand dog Izzy. Dr. Llewellyn was nearly in tears right along with us. Just a great staff all together. Can't say enough good.

I had an emergency with my poor dog Mini. She was attacked by 2 other dogs both 3 times her weight. All the emergency vets I called were closed on Mondays or packed full. So out of options and growing desperate we ran over to this office and they got us in fast. It really means a lot to me and my dog. Everyone was so nice and understanding even without an appointment (although if you can, book an appointment before coming in) Mini is doped up and doing much better. Thank you to the staff of the Jordan River VCA! It means a lot you helped take care of my little girl 🐶
